R1 Clocks

Any one know when all plugged up why my oil light comes on, temp too high and fan starts up. Before i even turn the engine over.
Oh, also does it when running.

Have you got the oil level switch connected? Are you using an R1 temp sender? What year is the motor, and what year clocks are you using?

Just had a look, it's not the oil it's the coolant temp warning light that stays on. Im using the original R1 clocks and digi readout is flashing HI.

If the screen says HI then the coolant temperature sensor thinks that the coolant is above 130° IIRC. Do you have the temperature sensor connected? 98 / 99 R1s have a separate temperature sensor and thermostat switch later ones have a single combined sensor.

Sensor conected goes hi and fan on, unplug it and is low and no fan on. Think it's the sensor.

I take it that you're motor and clocks are 2000/01, and using the single temp sensor where the clocks switch on the fan?

It does sound like you have a dead short in your temp sensor. If you have a manual to hand it should give the resistance reading across the sensor at various temperatures. Unfortunately mine is at home so I won't be able to look before tonight.....

No worries, any time!

I just can't help staring at it - it's hypnotic! I might have to 'borrow' it to brighten up my day!

p.s. 'Er indoors likes the idea of an R1 Mini to go with her '66 mk1......
Hmmmm........
