Sounds as if you haven't got the 100Ohm resistor in the gray wire that takes a positive feed to the ECU.
Unfortunately, my scribbled on haynes manual is at home and I can't remember what colours the others are.
Someone should be along soon, if they're not, I'll post the details when I leave work

Have you got a 100ohm resistor connected to the ecu? if not it wont spark. i'll have to dig out the wiring diagram to tell you which wire it needs to be on. Somewhere i have a wiring diagram that i got from ST which i can copy for you if need be. Live to fuel pump is from ignition switch.

No Spark

So i still need a resistor even though i am using the bike ignition as an anti theft becasue if you put a peter across it gives 9.5v instead of 12v

if you have a copy of the stuart taylor diagram that would be good thanks Chris

PS if any billy wizzes out there would like to have a look for me the car is maltby rotherham.

Thanks Chris

if your using the bikes ignition switch (key)
then im sure you dont need one
but if your putting it to a sierra ignition then you will need it !

i get this alot with mine (b4)
when ive played with the wiring,
i have to disconect the battery and reconnect it and it ok then!

have you had it running at some point ?

From your original post, I assumed you were using the sierra ignition switch with the bike ignition system - in that case you would need the resistor.
If you are using the complete bike ignition system and the original switch, AFAIK you don't need the resistor because, as you said, it gives the required voltage drop in the switch.
I have the bike ignition system wired to the sierra switch and it definitely needed the resistor. I found this out as I managed to forget it despite having read it many times before

Spooky... I had this problem too!
I experimented by changing the resistor to one that had a higher wattage and it stopped doing it. Don't know why it worked?

I've an 'E' model wiring diagram in my archive. It is similar to the 'C' model so it might be helpful

Oi, diagram is here!

Sounds about right.

White 12v feed from battery
Grey switched to ECU (I have this wired to posn I on the sierra switch)
Brown main ignition (wired to posn II on the sierra switch)

Then again, I have basically added the (very few) extra wires into a complete bike loom. I've no experience of the Vicki Green loom.

Did you

Connect the 100ohm resistor between the grey and the white battery wire to give the correct power to the cdi ?

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Hi thanks for those answers,I think I have made all the correct connections, fitted correct resistor in the right place ,but still no spark ! I am beginning to wonder if the ECU is faulty, does anyone know who could test it,or if I could try my ECU in someones working car ?

thanks for the resistors Paul,I still have no spark. I suspect the ecu could be faulty, so if there is anyone within a few miles of me,with aZX9R C1 (or C2?) could I try my ecu on your car? then at least I will know if mine is broke before spending money on a replacement , thanks
