v6 performance

reading about the locost pinto figures I have been having a debate with the neighbor on what to expect from my 2.8 v6 thing. Never did do a 0-60 time when it was in the falcon and that's a heavy car anyway.

So for those who have this fitted, what's it like???

I have the 2.9i fitted, (145bhp), and I think the 2.8 was/is about 143, so much the same. I have tried 0 to 60, and very roughly its between 4.5 and 5.5 sec's, very hard to get an accurate time when your trying to stop it hitting the rev limiter. Main thing I love is its a great motorway cruiser, and if something tasty goes past, with judisious use of the box and boot your right up his/her exhaust pipe in next to no time. Top speed is around 140 ish, I have had it up to 135 and still going. Hope that gives some idea, not acurate, but close. Regards, Ray

wow!

Now that is the performance I'm after

Looked at the book and its rated at 150 bhp with webber carb & 180bhp if I fit the fuel injection (which I have most of).

Once I get the can on the road I'm going to spend a bit on getting the most out of this unit, even thinking of twin turbo's etc. I have some friends much more knowledgeable about these things and I'm going to let them tinker with it…

First is to get a good manifold system, I have looked on the web and drawn a blank. I was trying to get a diy weld together system, but nothing.

But knowing now that it’s going to be that good I’m really looking forward to getting a shot, long nights ahead. Just had a five hour coffee fuelled weld-athon today

Cheers

0-60 times with my V6 should be considerably better than any production cars on the road imo. Although I have only got 202bhp, I estimate under 4 secs - one similar car with a tuned jag V6 (330bhp) was allegedly timed at 2.9 secs on a second gear launch

but you have to keep everything in perspective:

My mates ultima which has a genuine 720hp and 680lbft torque does 0-60 in 2.6 secs, which doesn't sound so quick by comparison, but WAS, by contrast, timed by Datron GPS!!!

It also does 0-100 in 5.1 secs and 0-100-0 in 9.4 secs.
