Not a great drive - too many slow people!
David Jenkins - 4/6/11 at 06:07 PM

Was fiddling with the car today, and when I'd finished I told the missus that I was going out for a quick drive around to make sure it was OK. Her response was "the weather's nice, why not go out for a long drive?" - so I did.

It was SO FRUSTRATING! Everywhere I went I came across seriously slow drivers - typically 35mph in 60mph country roads, with no chance of overtaking. I even came across someone on a big bike, pootling along hogging the whole road, with no chance of overtaking.

Just one nice driver in an open-topped Audi, who waved me by 'cos he wasn't in any hurry.

Arghh!

same for on the way back from the MOT

Same last night, I did about 6 miles then came back out of frustration and annoyance.
No matter which lane I took it was drenched with the slow tw**s

thats suffolk for you, full of OAP'S out for a relaxing drive

Very few good roads that are not 30mph or empty around here. If any one knows good roads in suffolk please let me know.

I was on one of my favourite runs - Needham Market to Bildeston (B1078, B1115, A1141), and on to Hadleigh - which is normally a great road for bombing along at the legal limit, with lots of interesting twists and turns. Not so much fun when you're on the end of a queue of 5 or 6 cars with a Nissan Micra crawling along at the front...

It's a bit much when you're trundling along at 30mph on the open road, and you see the brake lights come on because the lead car has slowed down for a corner (a corner I'd normally go round at 60mph with no trouble).

Ho Hum...

had the opposite on a drive out today, not much traffic and what i did catch up it always seemed to be in the right place so i could nip straight past.
was a good enjoyable run out apart from all the horses and gypos around appleby, forgot about the horse fair

Guys, please remember that some of these seemingly slow drivers might just be the unfortunate recipients of warning letters from the traffic constabulary.

Like me! My first, in over 50 years of driving, dammit. So, when one has been sent one of these "gotcha" letters, the inevitable reaction is to drive everywhere either at 29mph, or 69mph on motorways, and so on.

My heinous crime - I exceeded the speed limit by 5mph. Where are you now, Horace Rumpole, now that I need you??

Speed awareness course booked. S*d it!!!!

If they were doing 50-ish in a 60 zone then I'd just bide my time, put up with it and enjoy the scenery... 30 - 35 is just TOO SLOW!

Oh the joys of owning a bike

This was one of the final deciding factors for me getting rid of mine. I would end up more frustrated on a drive than being able to enjoy it. Especially as they are fine weather cars and thats when everyone eelse goes out too...

i manage to get past these b45tards when im in the van, surely in a kitcar they are just mobile chicanes?!

David Jenkins - 4/6/11 at 09:11 PM

Oh, I got past a few...

...but there were just too many of them on the roads.

ashg - 4/6/11 at 10:10 PM

go out at 6-7am on a sunday there isnt a single car on the road down the lanes.

greenwood03 - 5/6/11 at 01:52 PM

its pretty simple in the Home Counties -blating time is finished by 7.30-8am, then its plodders and horse boxes.......its worth getting out of bed to get those clear roads!
( contrast to yesterday for us in France /Belgium - perfectly quiet, in 160+ miles only had to overtake 6 cars/tractors).

beaver34 - 5/6/11 at 09:25 PM

You need to make it faster so you can overtake 6 cars at a time

haha I managed to resist saying that for fear of repressive individuals calling me irresponsible

I have sympathy for you all. On Friday coming back from Wales with the caravan, all these cars/lorries/coaches around the M25 end of the M4 doing 10 mph.

Just couldn't get past. Bloody cars added hour and a half to my journey.

'Triple decker' overtakes are the best when you overtake someone who's also overtaking..... not that I would condone such an action.

To be honest though these days I just use my 406 DERV mobile on the road, turn my brain off and pootle along with the goons, no point getting worked up. I have the the 306 GTi-6 for a bit of track fun and the Life-Taker for racing.
