= £14,534

Hope it's very fast for that!

Top spec car though.

When everything is totaled up even the budget builds can become expensive!

GOJO - 11/7/12 at 10:48 PM

Not as bad as i thought im sure i was over 15! Just thought of doing the post from another one where he is trying to gague costs, it might give someone a clearer idea mk reckoned on the road for 10 so i thought a budget of 12 and that soon went!

TimC - 11/7/12 at 10:56 PM

I'm not at all surprised by that; nice car too!

Seems a lot of money, but I wonder how much an equivalent performance Caterham would cost ?

Some detailed research there, nice one, very useful for others.

If looking to cost save I'd go for the MK seats rather than pay 800 quid for the tillet seats. You also don't have to put a £160 steering wheel on it too. 670 for an exhaust seems steep, and IMO custom mats will just get manky in an open top car as they won't dry out if it rains - if an F40 can make do without carpet, so can an indy btw you are welcome to borrow/buy my reverse gear to get you through IVA.

Btw don't forget to budget for a decent pedal box...(if it's in there apologies)

Yes if i had a lower budget i would put cheaper seats in but whats point in a good cage and harness if the seat lets you down in a crash? Just my opinion, but you really can tell the diffrence to a cheap seat. use a cheap wheel, use cheaper dash switches, standard sierra front brakes reverse is in there.
Mats are fitted to stop the black floor getting worn and also add a bit of colour and should reduce road noise a little, and i wont be out in the rain intentionally.

Ive allready got another set of running gear, and looking at the best but cheapest way of doing (bec) and building a track car , not to cut corners but a locost i will keep gathering parts then hopefully land on a chassis someone has give up on.

Well done for posting that up...

To often the budget of these cars gets under/over-exaggerated...

My first car (A MAC1 Motorsport with a £450 Blade engine) cost me approximately £9,600
I don't have a budget sheet anymore, but it doesn't take a genius to compare to someone else's.
Mine came with the cheapo harnesses/seats etc from MAC1, so it seems that your budget with better gear than mine (esp the engine) is actually pretty good, in my humble opinion.

Plus, I spent a good few quidtaking off standard bodywork and fitting carbon bodywork, that I started to buy, but then made myself.
Also, I had to spend money setting up the car, and then had to remake all the rear wishbones as they pointed to approx 2.5 metres to the left of the front of the car.

Mind you after I did all that, it was quite a good handling car. Was still pretty quick, but would have been nice with another 30/40 Hp...
