BEC Rectifier locations
Moorron - 20/2/16 at 02:49 PM

Hi Lads,

With some winter rewiring on my to do list Im wondering where you have placed your Rectifier on your cars?

Mine is currently sitting on the rail directly behind the radiator but now I have chance to move it behind the scuttle with the dash wiring and was wondering if this is a better location. At the moment mine is getting air blown over it to help it cool but this air has been through the radiator and is warm/hot. But under the dash it cooler but has no airflow, which would be better?

Any pics would help too.

Cheers
Andy

I fitted mine to the bulkhead with a PC fan attached. Had no problems

On the firewall passenger side inside the engine bay.

Has no issues either

Doesn't look as cool as above though

Hi I have mine mounted behind the bulkhead panel I've it here on all 4 bec builds I've done and seems to be happy....

Mine is on the bulkhead within the engine bay. I figured it was sat on aluminium which will help dissipate heat, and it gets the airflow coming through to help keep it cool. I also extended a couple of the fins for a real belt and braces approach.

Mine sits on the aluminium directly above the drivers footwall. I can confirm that rarely gets hot- if only (my poor tootsies!).

PS went to the Ace Cafe this AM with my 3 year old daughter (sadly not in the Locost). Still nice to take her there, check out the motorbikes, getting all nostalgic and remembering wheelspinning my way all the way from the exit to the traffic lights, my ex-GF hitting 130mph on her motorbike over the Brent X flyover...... Nothing like a bit of reminiscing! My daughter thoroughly loved it- she thought the jukebox was amazing.

Used the original Fireblade one at first but it burnt out, mounted a Goldwing one on besides the battery bulk head and it's been fine.

Ours is mounted on an ally heatsink/bracket with a computer fan bolted to it for extra cooling.

Mines In the side pod! Plenty of airflow

Cheers for the info lads.

I will move mine behind the dash when I get chance, it will make the wiring in the engine bay much neater and I have the room under the scuttle. I checked mine for heat today after a run out and it gets hot as I cant hold my hand on it but very close to my pain limit. It must be heating up sitting behind the rad where the hot air exhausts from the fan.

They get very hot and fail quite easily. My fan packed up on a track day at croft a few years ago ending the day early when the rectifier packed up and battery lost charge

After burning out a couple mounted behind the rad where yours is.
I moved mine to just inside the side panel on the drivers side, with a small cooling duct aimed at it and a pc style fan.

its been fine so far!

Mines hanging down below this plate I made up for ECU etc.

So sits in the area above front propshaft with plenty of air moving over it.

Mine is mounted in a similar position to yours?

In front of the clutch cover to the right (my LiFePO4 battery is there too)

I upgraded the p i s s poor original Honda Reg/Rec to a much beefier SHINDENGEN FH012AA MOSFET & is mounted on a heatsink pad & bolted to the ally floor for better heatsinking... I also added a f u k-off heatsink fan to it
