R1 turbo
hearnia - 25/3/07 at 11:18 AM

Anyone interested in making a manifold for me or know anywhere worth asking to make one up?

I'm using a 4XV R1 engine and a Renault 5 turbocharger.

Cheers
Joe

Have a search on ebay under 'r1 turbo' there is a company doing turbo conversions, they may be able to help.

Yeah I had a look at those, was looking for something in the UK though.

I emailed Martin at MK engineering, hopefully he'll get back to me with something.

Anyone know of anyone else that may be interested for a reasonable price. I'm looking to spend £150-200 max.

You could try Joe ( Welderman ) not sure he would be interested but you don't know if you don't ask???

cheers,
Steve.

the company is in the uk, I think they are in Sussex??

The only place I could find was in the USA?! Will do a search for completed listings.

Welderman sounds like a good idea, I'll send him a U2U.

Cheers

A firm called GS Robertson Blacksmiths in Kirriemuir, Angus, did bespoke manifold and airbox for my R1 turbo. Exceptional quality work, so they may be worth a call even if they're a long way from you. You'll get them in the book.

Cheers, have you got any pictures of their work? How much did it set you back?

Call Malcom,at mb customs in eastbourne,I have found him very helpfull and I have not even purchased a kit off him,but he stocks all bike turbo kit parts, and fabricates some of his own parts to a very high standard,www.mbcustoms.co.uk or call 01323 743733 .

Just to add aswell,if I was buying another turbo kit,I would be buying it from him.

Ashford, yourself?

Paddock Wood.

I may be able to help but am a bit short of time, what with family/Deimos etc.

If you do all the hard work - research or get pics of suitable manifold (so we'll have some idea of a system that works) get flanges made or bought (for ex to head, and turbo to system), order all the pipes (in stainless), I will do the cutting/shaping and welding for you.

I can't do anything for another couple of weeks, but that'll give you a chance to research and get bits in

Don't forget where it's going and take note of space available in car.

I've got the standard R1 manifold that I've been cutting about and trying to get into some kind of shape, but have found the bends are all out of place.

Depending on what happens over the next week, with people getting back to me etc. I'll source some stainless plate (any ideas where?) to make up the flanges.

Cheers

Joe,

I cheated with my flanges and traced the shape, and took them to sciss (www.sciss.co.uk) in staplehurst who cut them out with a water jet.

The manifold bends were from www.allstainless.co.uk though probably a bit ott at 5mm thick.

How are the manifolds connected to the head on your engine - is it typical bike (exhaust going "into" head, or typical car type flange to head face with gasket?

Forgot to mention, you'll also need a flange for the turbo outlet to exhaust.

If the flanges are the same as the blade then i can have them cut no problem ,if not can get them drawn up or scanned and then cut.

I'm pretty sure the exhaust port centres on the R1 manifold are 85mm all the way across. Can anyone confirm the centres please?
