nitram38 - 18/1/08 at 06:11 PM

I haven't disappeared.
I am nearly ready to weld up everything and strip the chassis of parts. Ignore the paper paddleshift!

Excellent, I see you've been busy it's all coming together!

One question, any reason you didn't bring the rollbar to meet the outer chassis rails? Looks like a possible weak spot without gussetting below - unless that plate is particulary thick...

The plate has a folded front edge and is pretty strong. The main reason for bringing the rollbar forward is to allow the seatbelts to fit and unfortunately the MK roll bar is not quite as wide as the car. So it will not end up right on the point the two rails meet anyway.
I trust it and that is all that matters

I have one better than that.......a mate with access to a cnc machine!
I only have to mount the gearshift cable bracket and make a plate for the fuel filler, plus complete my shock mounts ( these are pretty easy to do) and then it is engine out and full weld up.
I will still need to construct a floor pan. I will make it in timber then take a fibreglass mold, so still plenty to do.

(The square hole in the column top plate is for the brake resevour and the scuttle panel over this will be flat but have two smoked bubble screens mounted on it. There will be a cut out under the bubble so you can see the resevours)

Very Nice Martin. By the way, who bends your pipework?

There are only 4 rails that were rolled and 4 bends that the seat subframe is fixed to. I had them done by a firm called Loughboro designs on an ind est in Mitcham.
They are on the web if you need them.
They sand filled, welded caps and rolled them. All I did was supply a template in steel electrical conduit (I'm a spark)

Looks Quality, the front wishbones look very sleek,I take it when the build is finished, you have to strip it all down again for powder coating is this a one off build,or are you hoping to go into production.

Very nice. I'm newer to this site and plan to search out earlier post on your project.

It is a one off, but if someone is willing to measure it up and cad drawing it, maybe a set of plans could be for sale?
The car has cost me £14.5K so far ( I expect it to be £15.5 to finish).
I know a lot of you have just fallen off your seats!
The reason it is so high is because of every part is brand new for a new reg except the 650 mile R1 engine.
Trickshifter, power commander, vapor dash, seats, proalloy wheels, wilwood brakes/cylinders, new hubs, etc soon add up.
I am sure a home build could be built with a lot less money, but the most difficult bit (rolling tube) cost about £250, which is worth having done professionally. There isn't a kink or mark on the tubes.

I wonder who else has been brave enough to do that!
