Off-Road La Bala using Alan B's front uprights
sgraber - 8/5/08 at 11:38 PM

I wish I had more closeup photos of Alan B's upright design used in this project. I am working on getting Greg the owner of this off-road La Bala to send me some. It uses a bolt_on GM Cavalier hub. Alan's design can use either a ball-joint top and bottom, or a heim as shown below. High misalignment spacers to allow full travel are still missing in the photo below.

The front end has 12" of travel, the rear has 10" and travel at the back is limited by the use of the stock Cavalier axles and cv's. And of COURSE this project is still in early stages! The car is held up by steel tubes, so it's a pretty stiff suspension right now.

The Main Chassis is a Bala built from my plans, but modified front and rear to change the suspension.

Wow.....how cool is that?....is just shows how different genres of car can blend and merge...

Keep us in the loop on this one Steve....

Well it could... but the wheels will stick out well past the edge of the wheelwells!

Closeups of the upright. Note that it's still missing the caliper bracket and steering arm which will be added as Greg moves along in the build.

What kind of part is this disc which is welded to the upright?

It's a plasma cut steel plate which is integral to the upright and forms the flange to which the GM hub bolts.

Baja Bala is good.

I was thinking it should be called the BLAST Or Bala ST. But maybe that has too many connotations of Ballast or Ba LAST?

Maybe Bajala?

My builder Greg has made a lot of progress on his Bala Rail.
