IVA seat anchors

Alright chaps!

Need some clarification on some seat belt anchors!! I need to raise my seat belt anchors so have decided to add a tube across the roll bar to sort this.

Now am I reading this right?!

The extra bar has to be the same diameter as the roll bar?!

The new anchors have to be welded at the top and bottom of the new bar?

Cheers!

I didn't think the bar needed to be the same diameter as many kits have square tube at the correct height
Yes the anchors have to be welded both ends

I made some 50mm spacers and put longer bolts in to raise them up - passed IVA fine

I would feel safer raising the anchor up to the right height.

You could always keep the mounts where they are and raise the effective anchorage point by having the harnesses run over a bar at the correct height. That is what I did.

Personally I'd prefer to add the bar as you describe and weld in new anchorage points. I'm not sure on the bar diameter rules, but believe the anchorages have to be fully welded top and bottom.

When I built my MK Indy and SVA'd it a few years ago this wasn't an issue as the chassis came with anchorages welded in place which met the SVA requirements.

The IVA inspector had a look at them for turning moments and structural integrity and found no problems, hence the pass.
