Re Tax'ing after Sorn ?
Deckman001 - 3/4/22 at 02:16 PM

Hi all, well having registered my car only last year and then put it on Sorn in November, I just tried to re-tax it but was refused on line due to it not having a current MOT. Aren't new cars exempt from MOT's for the first three years? of am I incorrect ?

It's an anomaly that has never been fixed since IVA started
You will have to tax it at a Post Office with your V5c.

Cheers for that, I’ll try and do that this week then 😎

Hi
I had the same issue and the Post Office taxed it for me so i asked the DVLA and they told me that i still needed a MOT a year after the IVA test.
For the sake of £50 quid i wasnt prepared to risk a no pay by my insurance company.

Its really odd, mine was registered in October sorned December and taxed online March, did the same again over winter the next year and no issues - it did say when I checked the car at the Gov site - details of MOT not held. Mine had an age related reg number if that may be the difference??

Happy days, It took the Post Office counter person about 30 seconds to sort it and I'm now legal for another 12 months

Had to do the same on the striker for the first few years.

As long as you have all the paperwork there is not a problem at the post office
