Rally design quick rack

Can the steering ball joints be removed from the rally design rack? Looking to add lock stops and cannot find 2 piece collars that will fit, so looking to see if the rack can be dismantled easily and one piece collars added.

RS Components?

The outside diameter of the 2 piece collars seems to be too big from what I can see

What size is your column?

The rack is 21mm OD and the assembly it goes inside is 39mm ID. I can't get a 21mm collar to fit under that unless it is 1 piece with a grub screw

This is what I was advised to get:

I never actually ordered it as in the end did not need it. I believe this can be fettled to fit your application. It depends how accurate your measurements are. The 20mm can be opened up to 21mm by Black-Decker-X34036-Flap-Wheel-Medium-20mm-x-20mm. Bear in mind these devices are deliberately slightly oval to make them clamp. The 39mm can be obtained with a lathe. Again depends on how accurate your 39mm has been measured. But putting that device in a lathe and taking 1mm of is very easy.

I hope this helps.

surely they come apart don't they? I'll have to extend my rack so i need it to!
I'm sure i read about it before in a build thread

Please believe me, these are not going to be any use. The OD of the coupling is 40mm but the total clearance of the lug bolts is about 48mm.

So can anyone shed any light on whether the Rally Design rack can be dismantled?

Show me a picture please?

Yes you can dismantle Mk11 escort steering racks if you know what you are doing. The cups on the end are held on by a lock nut and possibly a lock pin too. Inside is a plastic cup and a tension spring. When re-assembling you need to adjust the outer cup and locknut to set the right pre-tension on the track rod then drill and fit a lock pin.

Unless I am misunderstanding the orig question

most people stick jubilee clips over the rack to reduce the overall rack movement ?
