What the f@#K!! (driveshafts)

Ooh, I have done something very stupid. A couple months ago i’ve made new driveshafts voor the build car. Because the weather was very bad and the car stands outside. I could not test fit the new (push in) driveshafts.
Today I would assemble the rear suspension. And what do you think, the shaft don’t fit. Arggggg....The splines are a couple milimeter smaller of the new ones.
I have now entirely had it with car building. And don’t now what to do anymore.

Some suggestions:
A Cut the car in small pieces, burn it, destroy it complete.
B Made for the third time new drifshafts
C Buy a final drive that fits the shafts.

Bummer... not worth giving up over... Had a look on your picture archive and you seem quite far through the build.

You could always try the Father ted and the tiny cows aproach and hold the new drive shaft closer to the camera?

Dunno? get a diff to match the new shafts?

My heart bleeds for you old son. Unfortunately this is all part of Special building. There are spectacular lows as well as highs. We've all been there. Think of it as character building!!

Don't despair, there is an answer but the answer is not to give up.

What about the suggestion of swapping over the ends?

My suggestions are, in order.

1 have cry/whinge and/or moan about life, the universe and your drive shaft predicament (especially on this site). Ah, ok youv'e already done that.

2. Go to pub, have a good drink, then eventually go to bed.

3. Get up in the morning and realise that one of the simplest solution is as above, SWAP the ends over.

4. be prepared for 3. to go wrong and start organising some replacement shafts, this time checking that the ends are correct for what you want and possibly sell the wrong adjusted ones on Eb*y.

5. eventually take a great deal of pride in the fact that when things seem as bad as they could get you didn't give up and you succeeded in the end.

PS your english is a damn sight better than my dutch.

well put it like this if things went smooth all the time would the satisfaction of completing the build be as high as the grin factor you will experience when you are finished knowing the pain and suffering which you have expereinced. Oh and another thing when everything is all done and dusted you will laugh and think to yourself "to think i nearly gave up on this thing what a daft thing to have been thinking"

As previously stated, just swap the ends over, no big deal. Haynes manual covers the refurb of these units. DON'T give up, stick with it, and have pride in the fact that you won, despite all the set backs. Regards Ray.

1.Have a little drink, have a little schmoke.

2.Shout, Hoff ver dommer(unsure of correct spelling!) a few times.

3.Swap the ends and then start again at 1 untill build is complete!.

Thanks guys, this weekend I did not work on the car. With some friends we made a city trip tot Amsterdam. And I can tell, that clears your head.

The problem of the driveshaft are that the old ones are from ‘87 and the new ones from ’85. For this reason I think that the ends can’t be exchanged. So I can trying to find a differential from ’85 or buy some driveshafts and weld them up to fit the car. (costs just as much time as swaping the ends over).
