I'm not sure whether to keep or remove the heater in my Fury.

Pro's:

Weight saving (I haven't weighed it but heater plus a few litres(?) or water aren't light)

Con's

No more heat - BUT it wasn't really that effective even with the hood up unless you're going very slowly. You only really get cold when you're going faster (due to wind chill) and that is when you need the heater but all the hot air just gets sucked out!


I've still got a full windscreen so it's not an extra extra light comfortless car but if it doesn't help I might as well get rid and have "added lightness".

Photo, it's a VAG heater - anyone know how much this is likely to weigh?

Rip it out I haven't got one in my fully screen fury and I'd hate to think your warmer than me

Heater? hood? never needed either myself

Keep it - it may come in handy to clear the screen on a rainy day

I took the heater out of mine as all it did was suck fumes out of the engine bay and blow it into the cabin.

rip it out real men dont need heaters...

I don't know the answer but if you have a full windscreen don't you need it for the mot the same as wipers washers

I think you should keep it. Theyre not that heavy, and it is nice to have some comforts in your toy.

Having had a polo heater (that I didn't fit in the end) I'd guess it's weight at about 2kg.
Did it keep you warm when you really needed it (Grimsell pass)?

I have a very small heater in my fury, it weights 2.4 kilos wet, and pumps out just enough heat to keep my feet warm when its -2 outside, worth every gram!

A pair of thicker/more efficient socks would weigh less.

I have a heater in my Fury, and it's staying.

There are two things I hate, cold feet and cold hands. The heater fixes the feet, (yes even when it was -2 and 70mph), gloves fix the hands, and in truth if I wanted to save 2, 3 , or 5kg I'd go on a diet.

Fury = fun
cold = sad

Wouldn't bother. You won't feel any performance gain but you will feel the cold.

I couldnt manage without my heater - if it's cold I have the hood up anyway , cant see the point in carrying it around and not using it/getting cold and wet ?
But I do find I have to un-zip the rear window as it gets too hot , it's a mini heater , and puts out loads of heat

If it doesn't shift mist on the screen and it's not that powerful, then it's pretty much surplus to requirement... bin!

Or 3rd choice, replace it with a better functioning heater ?

for clearing screen etc, i'd go electric hater. works faster when the engines cold, take it out in the summer if weight saving's really your thing, or leave it in and take a dump before you leave the house. that'll save about the same amount of weight lol

I'd keep it. Even in the summer you'll be glad sometimes to have warm air blowing at you legs, also lets you drive in colder weather. If the fans not all that powerful you can buy a motor from RS etc to upgrade it. If you have a screen no heater is a bad idea, hit a bit of fog and you'll see nothing. My Falcon has a cortina heater which allows me to driving it hood down even with snow on the ground, it would be a horror without it.

or when in traffic and the engine starts to overheat use it as a second radiator. Worked well in my Renault 5 turbo days.

If you want to keep your feet and legs warm, then buy a turbo. More heat than you know what to do with.

But if you do keep it, it would be a good idea to suck air from the outside world rather than under the bonnet... Fumes = bad news
