Stainless Steel Screws
myke pocock - 30/11/20 at 04:55 PM

I am looking for some stainless steel screws similar in design to the attached ebay listing but with an Allen head and M6 thread, max 12mm long but can, of course, cut to length. Only need a dozen or so. Is there a technical tern for that kind of head and any idea where I can get some from?

Would they be any good?

Search for "m6 flange head stainless steel bolts" on amazon. You can always shorten them?
Or eBay Item

most places would probably call that a 'button head with flange'

the most common type seems to be an "ISO 7380-2" - so try searching for that

this is the nearest I can find right now from the suppliers I've used before: (M6x16)

OP / myke pocock

Different location I realise, but my local tool / fastener store is helpful with things like that. They'll often let me poke through their stoke bins to locate what I'm after if I don't know the proper name for it. They're not that expensive either.

Might be worth seeing what shops are in your area?

You can always take a picture on your phone to help describe / identify what you're looking for.

I use PTS a LOT at work. Come very highly recommended and the extra screws will always be useful for something later

PTS is our primary fastener supplier at work too, good quality parts.

Personally I'd stick with Torx rather than Hex though, I hate hex.

Fair comment - I find Torx head a bit more resiliant to damage than hex/Allen head. Torx bits and drivers are not expensive and are widely available as well.

Many car manufaturers (German ones in particular) seem to favour XZN (triple square) drives. These again are very resiliant, but the tools can be a bit more expensive and harder to find.
