P2P discovery software
RichardK - 27/7/09 at 08:26 PM

Can anybody recommend some software that can sit on the lan and discover pc's/laptops that are running P2P software? Preferably free

Going to a site tomorrow that are complaining of poor net speed and I know of at least 2 guys that like to download films etc.

Cheers

Rich

Snort might help but I dont think it will be easy particularly if the users know what they are doing, they will use encryption and then you are pretty much limited to detecting open ports. Does the company not have an ISA server?

Just had a search on google and there is one called wireshark that might help also.

sorry for the multiple post but you could also use something like Spiceworks to scan all the PC's on the network and find all applications installed on the PC's it will show any P2P software installed. Awesome piece of free software actually so worth a look anyway.

Sophos do a free application discovery tool that might suit your purposes?
