help me choose a webcam
02GF74 - 30/5/11 at 06:33 PM

I need to record goings on 10 m away in an area that is 5 m wide. These goings on can occur any time during the day (I tried using my digital camera but it stopped recording after 1/2 hour).

I have Vista laptop and it seems to be that a webcam would do the above..... but which one and what software would I use to record to my hard drive?

Something Hd 12.0 Mega Usb 6 Led Webcam Web Cam Camera Laptop+Mic | eBay UK
EBUYSTATION - 2 x SCREEN PROTECT
seems to tick the boxes (I realise the MP is interpolated but vga resolution may be good enough) .... but I am not sure of how I go about recording to hard disk since there is no mention of any software.

Other suggestions? Price range £ 5 to £ 10.

Try this...

Edit to add another link as the above one links to an open source project that is no longer going...

This one lists some others that should do what you want.

..... anyone recommend a higher quality webcam to the one in the OP? Looking to spend about a tenner. 3 MP would be sufficient.

The little MD80 camera that lots of us use as in-car cameras can be used as webcams.

Also have a sound activated recording (but I've not tried it) don't know if that is of any use.

Cheap on ebay or places like ebuyer at about £10 - £15
