I've treated myself to a new front grille but the pins that are used to mount it go vertical instead of horizontal so obviously I need to drill
the fibreglass so I can mount it but I've no idea wot I can use to keep it in place and not slip down, does anyone have any ideas?

Looking at the grille at its widest point it doesn't look like it will go back into the recess very far. Is that right? If it does fit right
back into the recess then I would do the following...
Grind off the inch wide flat surface completely. They look far better without it IMHO. This will also get rid of the existing holes.
Drill the two lower holes.
Fit lower grille mounting prongs into drilled holes. The top prongs will require slots to slide into. They wont be seen. Centralise grille and
measure how much pokes through lower holes.
Remove grille.
Put some GRP under the lower holes so that when the holes are re-drilled to the required depth they become blind holes.
Refit grille. Should now sit at correct height.
Slide top prongs into slots. GRP a washer in place over the top prong.
And paint inside of nosecone black if not already done.
Bit of a faff I know. Straight off the top of my head.
But you did ask.
When the grill is in place it looks like it will be over the 4 holes in the fiber glass so put 4 small tie wraps though the glass and round the grill
What about small pieces of tube or "o"rings used as spacers on the grill to support on the grp. You can shim it up and down to get a best fit then maybe star washers to final fix inside the nose return edge
How about drilling two holes for the bottom pins, removing the top pins and cutting diagonal slots into two stainless-steel grub screws; hook the grub screws over the top rail of the grill and put them through the existing holes in the grp; star washers and nuts on the back?
Thanks for the advice guys, i drilled vertical holes out then on the inside i slotted silicone hose over the pins then put domed star lock washers
over the ends 
Looks pretty neat and secure
