Grill Suggestions, if you please!
Ben_Copeland - 20/4/14 at 10:38 AM

Just pulled the meshing out of my nosecone as it was blocking too much air to my rad/intercooler.

Don't really want it to leave it open, but I want some suggestions on what other people have done. Especially things that don't block the airflow.

That's what I had:

That's what I have now I've ripped the main bit out.

Be really helpful if people could also say where they bought it from too.

Thanks

I have the same dilemma, was looking at something like this

Barbecue grills are £££ but will give a closer mesh or the correct stuff

The stainless stuff on Ebay comes in two different orientations.Mine looks like diamonds. The one in the link above will look like squares.

That's what I need to find then, something that'll be diamonds with big enough holes.

Cheers

Keep em coming

Unfortunately far too restrictive

loggyboy - 20/4/14 at 02:14 PM

Quite a wide spacing and fine material, should give a good free air area.

Ah that's same style as I've already got, just bigger holes. Nice spot

Made mine from a salvaged BBQ st.st grill

adithorp - 20/4/14 at 09:25 PM

Woven or welded mesh is what you want. I got Ripspeed stuff from Halfords though they don't seem to stock it any more, or at least not on-line.

Expanded ally mesh (though larger is better than small) is very restrictive as is punched sheet.

Uphill Racer - 20/4/14 at 09:50 PM

It may sound a stupid question but does it run much cooler without it?

Ben_Copeland - 21/4/14 at 05:42 AM

Oh yes, it seems much cooler without the mesh. I previously put an 82c thermostat in there which it now doesn't need.

Although I'm still not had warm enough weather this weekend to test it

billy - 21/4/14 at 09:17 AM

Yes I hear a BBQ grill will do the trick :-) nearly as much as stripping the Ali off a caravan, in the name of Locost

prawnabie - 21/4/14 at 08:55 PM

I used a 99p wastepaper bin from ikea on my last car!

The Knobs - 30/4/14 at 05:34 PM

I found it was the exit of the air that was the problem with my Striker and meshed holes in the bonnet cured it.

Ben_Copeland - 30/4/14 at 06:03 PM

Plenty of holes in my bonnet and side panels (flared)

It's made a massive difference taking to grill out.

SausageArm - 8/5/14 at 09:02 AM

I used this stuff

HIGH QUALITY RS4 PLASTIC RACE MESH, GRILLE, VENT

Here's how it looks once it is installed

JAG - 8/5/14 at 09:55 AM

I used some 2" square weld mesh.....

SVA @ Nottingham
SVA @ Nottingham

Looks a lot better than you imagine and doesn't block air flow

Ben_Copeland - 8/5/14 at 09:56 AM

I found some 30mm x 10mm diamond mesh, same as pattern as I already had, but much bigger.

Seems to be ok, so far.

Macbeast - 8/5/14 at 11:52 AM

The barbecue grille. Lets air through but not sausages or chops
