Fog light for my car
Slimy38 - 14/11/23 at 09:16 PM

I'm after some ideas... here's my rear end;

The smaller hole halfway up is 45mm, then I have two gaps for 70mm lamps. But I can't find an e marked fog lamp that would fit in either. Is there any other option for adding an appropriate fog light?

could you fit it on the roll bar?

Would that pass IVA?

I just checked, only if it is below 1metre, (or 1.2m if you mount the other lights there too.)

Hmm, I could mount it on a vertical section. The cross bar is definitely above 1 metre. I just need to make sure I maintain the 5 degree down angle by not putting it too low on the vertical.

The real question is how do you get to your car?

From underneath!

There's an engine, suspension and all manner of parts just round the corner behind the welder, once they're actually on the car there's a surprising amount of room. It's that same problem that haunts all kit car builders, the fact that a donor car takes up so much more space as a bundle of parts than it ever did as a full car.

The 70mm lamps - do they not do these with a built in fog light (at least to one side)?

Not with the required marks, that's what I'm struggling with. Take the Defender 90 as an example, replacement light sets for a 90 consist of 70mm lights for side, brake and indicator so they would work perfectly. But the reverse and fog light are 90mm.

I found one fog light that was 50mm, but while it had an E mark it didn't have the other one (A 'B' I think it needs?).

Fair enough - I figured you'd probably have checked.

Different car and SVA not IVA when I did mine, but IIRC it only required an "E" mark.

Aye, those square ones are quite common and available with the two marks. I was thinking of putting one underneath the curve of the body, a bit like they do with Japanese import cars. But it would be better if it was part of the standard light set up.

For the amount of time I predict driving in fog (IE never!!) I'll probably switch it out for an unmarked fog light after IVA. As long as it's good enough for the MOT then I'm happy.

Likewise - in the 3 years I drove my Indy before selling up, I don't recall ever driving in fog. It was a means of getting through the SVA test.

This any use?
And have you checked the manual, do they have to be E marked ?

Aye that's the one I found (I remembered it as 50mm but that's the one I saw). This is from the IVA manual;

All rear fog lamps must display an "e" or "E" mark with a "B" or "F"

Just looking at the photo that is E marked but check with CBS.
