Good 'red' paint recommendations
Jasper - 10/5/07 at 10:33 AM

So I've decided to go with red on my Stylus with a big thick white stripe up the bonnet and around the front grill.

Can anybody recommend any good reds? I want a nice rich strong red - nothing too orange if you know what I mean....

Ducati red like mine!

a trip to halfords to look at the spray canss is what you need - will give you an idea.

VW Tornado Red, as used on Mk2 Golfs after'85 IIRC. Good solid red with no hint of orange (unlike the earlier Mars red which is to be avoided)

Hammerhead - 10/5/07 at 10:47 AM

Honda do a nice one, as used on the last generation civic.

Also I think I saw a great red on a Daewoo Matiz of all things!!

Both a real deep red without the orangeness of say, ducati red

how about Porsche Guards red?

Cheers

Ducati red is defintiely too orange for me....

Somebody else recommended VW Tornado red - will take a look, along with the others

Whatever red you choose, make sure it is protected with a good quality laquer - red is b1tch for fading.

robertst - 10/5/07 at 11:36 AM

i'm doin mine in red with silver stripe. i'm looking for a darkish red, like you with no orange, but tending more to brown than purple if u catch my drift... i had a pic somewhere...

The brightest red I have seen is Amulet red as seen on 2004> Audi's, two coat finish but will not fade

The Caterham is a little too dark for me - the Elise possibly a little orange.

This Audi Misano red is nice though.... Rescued attachment ALMSLF-small.jpg

My mojo is sprayed in BMW Hella red. I think it's a great colour...

Jasper - 10/5/07 at 12:24 PM

Yup - looks a nice red too.....

Lawnmower - 10/5/07 at 12:33 PM

Mazda MX5 SU red is quite dark.

nick205 - 10/5/07 at 12:41 PM

Audi - Missano Red get's my vote, been looking at that for a while.

DorsetStrider - 10/5/07 at 03:56 PM

I think the Football Association has a job lot of red paint going cheap... lol

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole thou.

That is a nice colour. I think a white (or maybe cream) stripe would look better against a darker red like the Caterham above though.

That red on nre's Mojo is a nice colour. The shaped front wings are a nice touch as well.

Too true, which is why the aforementioned VW Tornado Red is more commonly referred to by owners as Tornado Pink

Toyota Super Red III (found on mk2 MR2's) is another nice deep red

Fords Tango Red (metallic) is a nice red

I was going to post the same question, I want my car to be a deep blood red and silver, just like this car.

I'd agree that if you want a solid bright red the BMW Henna Red, as seen on the 80's M3's would be a good choice.

Cheers

Glad you like it

The shape of the front wings is standard Sylva issue, as fitted to many Strikers & Mojos. I'm sure they would sell you a pair if you like them that much!

Can't do metallics - too expensive and I want to be able to touch it in myself when the need arises - as I'm sure it will

I thought like this, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole but I've blown a few little repairs in now and they don't look bad if you use the original paint. I still prefer a solid colour though.
