fuel filler position
ayoungman - 5/3/08 at 08:37 PM

I'm trying to decide whether to have my filler on the top panel or on the rear panel. Can anyone post some pictures of their cars to help me choose ? Thanx in advance !

Ours is on the back panel, but if I was doing it again it'd be on the top.

Dunno whether it's just ours but it's a pain to fill, keeps clicking off unless you trickle it in ;(

Mine is on the back panel, but sometimes the pump times out before I can get my 6 1/2 gallons into it.

Yupsz mine has the same problem to...
i'm wondering wy it is... i think because the hole in my tank is 10mm smaller then my tube connected to it so the fuel bounces back a bit...

its really c**k because you cant fill up fast!!

i'm thinking of changeing it after SVA any way... (modding the tube and the holes...)

Tks

mine is on the back but same problem as above, in fact recentley have stopped filling through it and lift rear panel and put straight into top of tank.

going to refit onto the new top panel at this years overhaul.

Did mine on the top just because of reading various comments like the above, haven't worked out how to do the cover yet

Cheers

Agreed. Ive tried both. Rear panel looks good but pain to fill. Top is far better, not without minor issue but far better.

TTTTTOOOOOOPPPPPPPP gets my vote.

are you serious? no back panel fuel filler positioning defenders?? come on! come out wherever you are!

i'm putting it on the back panel... looks nicer, dont care spending 5 minutes more on the pump... plus cateringvans have had them on the back for ever... and still do...

Mine will be on the rear panel. Mainly because I will be running wet weather gear over top and cannot have the filler inside the cockpit (for obvious reasons ).

Are any of you guys who are having trouble filling up with the rear mount running vents? If not, that is your problem. You need to let the air out while fuel is going in or pressure will build and the pump will shut off.

If you have an extra fitting on top of your tank, run a vent hose with roll over valve to somewhere higher than the filler and you're done. Otherwise get a filler neck from a production car and modifiy it to fit yours.
Cheers.

Mines on the back!
And I also have a bit of a "S" in the filler to tank pipe (very flexible-wire reinfoced MAC1 type) as long as I point the nozzel in the direction of the flow I don't find it takes long at all

Bluemoon - 6/3/08 at 08:33 AM

Mines going on the side! Hopping that the vent pipe to the back of the filler will stop the petrol returning and cutting off the pump, time will tell...

Mines on the top on my Avon

was difficult to route the filler pipe without cutting into the boot - but i think it looks good.....

It's the 'cheap' aero filler from Europa..

(apologies for large piccies)

I will probable have mine on the back or side. I think it looks better plus i will be fitting a roof

Many thanks fellas. I've had a good look at it and I'll be going for the top panel as per dave's car. the rear panel will have a Vinyl design on it so I'm trying to keep it clear of obstructions. Hopefully, I'll get onto it this weekend but I've got 3 project cars on the go at the moment ! Beetle, Series Landy and an Avon !
