I have a part built MX5 based Haynes roadster with engine etc fitted and working.

What is the original source of the radiator ?

There is no standard radiator - the original builder can use whatever they have to hand.

Can you share a picture? We can at least have a guess then

As JAG says if you can share a picture (and any number on the radiator) someone on here will probably be able to identify it.

Most 7 type kit builders select a radiator that will fit under the nose cone as there's not a massive amount of space under there. When building my MK Indy I followed advice on here and used a VW Polo radiator. It was compact enough to fit under the nosecone and kept the 2.0 Pinto plenty cool enough even on hot days. Car was road use only, no track days.

So mine looks like this:-

Can't say i'm that happy about the coolant route at the rear of the engine, is this usual ? Tempted by the coolant reroute as its going to be a track car.

1lt Polo rad. Can't remember the year off top of my head or part number but a search on here should turn it up if nobody else comes up with it.

Yes, that pipe's too close to the exhaust for my liking. At minimum I'd swap it for a 90deg bend in silicone. It'll stand the heat better and be further away. I'd also put it in a piece of heat protection sleeve as well.

Seems to ring my bell as well.

A quick Google search suggests they're used on other 7 type cars too.
