locosaki - 4/5/10 at 12:26 PM

I've just bought an mi16 205 from my brother, I want to try fitting a super charger to this !

Anyone know much about it or pass any info on to me.

A bit of a long shot but thought I would ask here first.

Thats serious cash at £4000 !!!

I know where I can get my hands on a Opcon charger/charge cooler etc but it's fitted to a 306 gti 6 engine.

I know the engine principle is the same but I have no idea if it will bolt onto the mi16 lump ?!

The only 'cheap' supercharger is the Eaton one from the BMW Mini Cooper S (which a lot of people upgraded while they still had delivery mileage).

e.g. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-R53-Mini-Super-charger-Supercharger-Eaton-M45-NEW-/200466010469?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&ha sh=item2eacb49165#ht_500wt_1182

I wouldnt say cheap either....

They are one of the best centrifugal's available on the market due to their drive mechanism.

The first choice to make is what sort of charger you want - positive displacement or centrifugal. Each has its benefits and drawbacks.

Then go from there.

wot he said!

As Flak says, decide on centrifugal or positive displacement (for the record I am a fan of the latter, though they are no walk in the park)

Don't use the mini one though, no use whatsoever as it won't pump enough air. You need to be looking at 250hp minimum to be worth supercharging it and the mini one is absolutely balls out at 215hp

Yes you would want to be looking at an

M60 eaton for PD - fitted to jags and mercs commonly.

or

A Rotrex C30-94 for centrifugal

Both good for 400bhp or so.

Magic guys thanks for the input.

If I try and put the kit together myself there will be a hell of a lot of home fabrication required !!

I'll need to work out how cos effective it will be !!

NS Dev - 4/5/10 at 03:39 PM

plenty of folks on here who can do fabrication for you...............
