Top Ten British Cars Ever Built- Autocar Poll
maccmike - 29/8/12 at 09:17 AM

1 Original Mini
2 Range Rover
3 E Type
4 Land Rover
5 Mc F1
6 Evoque
7 Caterham 7
8 Morris Minor
9 MP4 12C
10London Taxi

I agree with the Mini being top and have no problem with the top 5 but not necessarily in that order.
But which bloody Cheshire WAG reads Autocar to put the Evoque above the 7?!!!
And no Locost!!!

here

Slimy38 - 29/8/12 at 09:44 AM

I think there should be at least one TVR in there...

And I agree with the Evoque, it has no business being in this list.

Indeed, it's a nice looking car but it's not been round long enough

MikeRJ - 29/8/12 at 09:54 AM

The Evoque is pointless triumph of styling over function and has no place in that list. They can replace it with the Elise.

deezee - 29/8/12 at 09:57 AM

This list pretty much sums up Autocar readers, rather than British cars. Fine example of news made from ignorance.

morcus - 29/8/12 at 10:06 AM

I'd agree with about half of them at a push, but how could they not have Rolls Royce on the list? And three different Land rovers?

Confused but excited. - 29/8/12 at 10:12 AM

Morgan?
Aston Martin?
Mk1 Escort?
Since when has a London taxi been a car?

morcus - 29/8/12 at 10:49 AM

Since when has it been anything else? Though I'll concede it isn't a specific car.

minitici - 29/8/12 at 10:52 AM

They missed the Austin Allegro!

morcus - 29/8/12 at 11:05 AM

They should have included the GT40, RS200, Cobra and Delorean, mostly to annoy Americans.

v8kid - 29/8/12 at 11:39 AM

and no TR's !!

TimC - 29/8/12 at 11:45 AM

6R4?

Strontium Dog - 29/8/12 at 11:57 AM

Trotters Robin has to be in there!

No Lotus Elise!!!???

steve m - 29/8/12 at 12:05 PM

Personly i think the Evoque, looks like my 2008 mondeo, but on steriods

e-type every time for me though!

roadrunner - 29/8/12 at 12:11 PM

Austin Princess.
I'll get my coat.

whitestu - 29/8/12 at 12:12 PM

God that's depressing! Is that the best we've got? Can I become an Italian?

RK - 29/8/12 at 12:13 PM

I know I am odd, but I just don't like the looks of the McLaren. I know everyone else loves it, and with enough off shore money, they would all have one, but I wouldn't.

Kind of with you on this one.

It's not unattractive, but it just doesn't seem to have a soul like Ferrari, Lambo etc manage to achieve with ease. It's like they asked the computer what the perfect supercar would look like and that's result - probably no far from the truth!

myke pocock - 29/8/12 at 01:03 PM

Caterham 7, their 'avin a laugh. It HAS to be the Lotus 7.

steve m - 29/8/12 at 01:06 PM

Myke, +1

A caterham is just a fancy name and price for a lotus 7

puma931 - 29/8/12 at 03:15 PM

I would add the BAC Mono to the list

Noble? Surely they're one of the last bastions of a truly british car

(I've always wanted to use bastion in a sentence )

mark chandler - 29/8/12 at 05:18 PM

Should at least be one Aston
DB7, most beautiful car ever !
DB5, fabulous

Range Rover 'classic' as it broke new ground, Land Rover was just a Jeep copy at the end of the day, although it has evolved, the current shape is 50 years old

Bare - 29/8/12 at 05:20 PM

Best is an ambiguos adjective.
In what way? Fun to drive?? Perhaps but that would erm... Reduce that list somewhat.
Durability? Quality of Construction/engineering? Damn few of those listed.
From direct experiences.

jollygreengiant - 29/8/12 at 06:08 PM

Jag 'D' type
Jensen Interceptor
Mk2 Jag
Allard
Mk1 Cortina
Rover P5b
Rover P6
Rover SD1
Reliant Scimitar
Ford Capri (most marks)
Ford Granda Ghia Coupe (Broadspeed)
6R4
Sunbeam Rapier (Holbay)

Rare oddity value - Morris Marina Manufacturers V8 rally conversion. Yep they REALLY did make at least one of them.

The above are just of the top of my head.

The Caterham is NOT a Lotus, nor is it supposed to be. It is an improved version, derived from it. Am I also the only person alive who thinks Colin Chapman was a HUMAN BEING, and a good businessman/racer and all that, but not a god? Everyone knows Eric Clapton is actually god. Not to be confused with Eric Idle, who was Mr. Cheeky in the Life of Brian. Brian wasn't a god either.

Heathens

You all know Dave Lister is God, twice.

Cloister the Stupid, God of the Cat People. Then he jumpstarts the second big bang.
