Bloody Renault clio sunroof
l0rd - 7/9/12 at 08:55 PM

Help please

My Electric sunroof just broke down

The car is a Clio 2002 model

Was driving along and before i hit the motorway, i decided to close it. It slided forwards but instead of tilting down to close, it stoped. I slided it open back again and then tried to close it once more. (did close in the end)

When i was about to enter back in the city where i lived, i decided to open it again and it refused. It opens only from the rear left side (looking from below ) and then the right front gets pushed up a bit as well.

Now it is closed but i want to have it sorted asap.

Helppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyone else had a same experience and have fixed it? The stealers here need mega bucks

I'd guess (repeat, guess) at there being a motor on either side of the glass to move it, and one of them is shot... Wouldn't have any idea where they'd be hidden and how to get to it though. I'm guessing that's the main section of cost, it'd be like a 3 hour job to replace a 2 quid motor

Usually all is revealed once you remove the headlining.

Am I reading right that it played up once, so you tried to open it a second time on the same journey? Because that just seems mad to me.

It does when you think about it, but when my pug decided to give me every warning under the sun when I started it I started it about 5 more times before I thought to check that some of the warnings were bs

it played once but then it worked.

there is one motor. i believe that the runners are shot and might need a new frame at the excess of 600 quid

I would suggested disconnecting it.

French cars !

Not in a million

I cannot have a car any more without a sunroof

I'm the otherway around, I hate sun roofs because I've never known one that hasn't gone wrong somehow, and most of them made the car hotter anyway because they let sun light in.

What you want is AC, or a convertible, or failing that a full length fabric roof like a 2CV.

Lord does live in Greece, you need a working sunroof or decent aircon!

I would suggest that one of the cables has snapped and it's now attempting to open one side of the roof and jamming. As you said, it'll only be one motor and I a few gears and cables to pull the roof open and shut. It would be a interior panel off job and see what can be seen!

Good luck Lord!

every car i have ever owned with a sunroof has caused me more bother than it was worth. lesson...... now i dont buy cars with sun roofs as they all eventually either let water in or get stuck.

if its stuck closed leave it closed and never worry about it again. years ago on my other halfs cinquecento it had 3 sunroof seals in two years. eventually i gave up and bonded it closed with pu adhesive and never had to worry about it again
