That's the sort of patience you will need if you intend to cut and shut a cvh sump

Simon - 2/2/14 at 07:56 PM

Hmm, haven't seen TG for prob three years, though am interested in the hot hatch debate.

Having driven both incarnations of the 5GT Turbo, Mazda 323 4x4Turbo, Escort RS Turbo, Fiat Uno Turbo, Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6/1.9 (during the week preceeding 3/8/87, Phase 1 % earlier obviously) and reckon the Renault was by far the best - fastest and best handling. Not interested in build quality etc. Worst was RS Turbo by a long shot

But, I reckon Clarkson will say it'll be the VolksVargen Golf (it's not a VV, muppet), in which case I agree with the YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnn sentiment entirely

What a pathetic load of dross, not one decent bit, made myself watch the first one Won't be watching any more

big_wasa - 2/2/14 at 09:06 PM

Ok its hard to see how it could have been any more ridiculous if they had tried.

steve m - 2/2/14 at 09:07 PM

"What a pathetic load of dross, not one decent bit, made myself watch the first one Won't be watching any more"

agree, a waste of one hour, that I could od done something usefull

Like sleep

TG should be aired at 1630 on any school night, as thats about were its humour and silliness belongs

Jed - 2/2/14 at 09:18 PM

Just when I thought that they couldn't get any worse, today's TG was the worst I've seen. Set the rest for a series recording and will be fast forward through the dross and wasting less of my life.

sdh2903 - 2/2/14 at 09:20 PM

people moaning about Top Gear yet again YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNN

Your tellies only got BBC 2? I suspect not................

ashg - 2/2/14 at 10:11 PM

I usually enjoy topgear, I don't mind the sillyness usually, but tonights episode was one of the poorest I have ever seen. they ruined something that could have been potentially a very good episode had they picked out some nice examples and done some proper tests, but then I guess modern car manufacturers wouldnt loan them cars if the new model come out inferior in the drivability department

I reluctantly have to agree, I love Topgear, but tonights offering was very poor, no sensible bits at all, just a bit like Benny Hill without the fanny

morcus - 2/2/14 at 10:22 PM

To be fair to the moaners (I enjoyed it) is there anything else on at 8?

ashg - 2/2/14 at 10:56 PM

Like I said I usually enjoy it but tonight was just very poor. Let's hop next week is better, the trailers showed some good cars coming up, I really want to see the new Alfa having read about its carbon chassis and other trick bits, my heart is saying trade in the BMW. My head is saying keep it.

Actually I have about 300 channels and still can't find anything to watch, so like a few on here thought I'd give TG a go - for the first time in about 2 years. I didn't even know they had a new car for SiaRPC

However, most proper petrolheads wouldn't have had that Nova (cheap and slow), a Fiesta (just Ford fanatics) or a Golf (the misguided).

Buying a hot hatch was for the performance not because you were a fashion victim - the 5GT T, 205GTi or a Sunbeam Lotus

morcus - 2/2/14 at 11:24 PM

They couldn't win though, if they'd bought decent hot hatches (Which would have cost more money) people would be on here moaning about them ruining them.

Simon - 3/2/14 at 12:05 AM

Yep agreed, but they are adults so could treat good cars with a certain amount of respect otherwise Steve M comments about it being aired during kids tv in the afternoon become quite pertinent.

I would certainly have preferred to see some decent cars, rather than 3 piles which have probably already been weighed in.

Scuzzle - 3/2/14 at 01:41 AM

I will always watch car shows because I like cars but the scripted mishaps in Top Gear in recent years are a huge negative in the same way that the scripted disasters and setbacks are in the car restoration shows.

drt - 3/2/14 at 03:17 AM

watch fifth gear ^^
Or if you're really into cars...motorvision

(please do not mention the war )

r1_pete - 3/2/14 at 07:58 AM

You could always have watched Call the Midwife, followed by Selfridges.. in comparison TG was the best entertainment of the evening......

Me also. It had the potential to be an excellent episode (I regularly go to tarmac rally events at Caerwent so was especially interested), but they made it far too silly.

One thing I did notice is that Clarkson seems to be looking considerably older than he did in the last series.

Trollyjack - 3/2/14 at 08:30 AM

What a load of crap very disapointed, wasted ahour I could have spent in the garage.

will probably record the rest and watch later

ianm67 - 3/2/14 at 08:39 AM

If it's so bad, why do you all bother watching it? It's not meant to be taken seriously, it's a light entertainment programme that just happens to include cars........ It makes me laugh more than most of the so called 'comedy' on the box at the moment. People should learn to lighten up a bit, life is too short for all of this moaning.......

I thoroughly enjoyed it - Three old petrol heads having a laugh with cars.

How do you know it's bad until you watch it?

Actually seems to be fans of the show who were disappointed with this episode (worrying in that you'd expect them to start the series with a strong show) or people who gave it another chance saying it's even worse than they remember. I suspect the former will become the latter if the series doesn't improve.

Humor is a funny thing, I enjoyed TG for years after they broke free of the original dated format but for a few series now it's about as funny as the Chuckle Brothers.

Benzine - 3/2/14 at 10:07 AM

Regular viewer and defender of top gear here. That episode was total pish.

They have a massive budget that could have made something amazing about hot hatches and could have been funny too. That was neither.

edit: needed more Charade GTti

Surrey Dave - 3/2/14 at 10:08 AM

I was eagerly waiting for the new series, and did watch it and will watch the rest, BUT the format is getting a bit tired, with the producers this and the producers that!

They did pick some shite hot hatches and appeared to prove that they were not as good as most basic small cars these days!!

With the old brakes and 80 -100 bhp on tap , you would probably find a Lupo diesel or Citroen C3 diesel would have give them a run for the money.

And who is interested in covering cars with fablon or fabric?

Wait a minute I suppose I could knit a nose cone cover for my Locost!!

Phil.J - 3/2/14 at 12:46 PM

Interesting quote in the Telegraph from the producer of TG saying it is made for people with a mental age of 9 years.
If you like it it must be appealing to your inner child!

Surrey Dave - 3/2/14 at 01:07 PM

My Dad's bigger than yours!!!

sdh2903 - 3/2/14 at 01:15 PM

There's a 9 year old in all of us or we wouldn't build silly toy cars which are totally impractical to cruise round in or blat round a track. Lighten up, don't like it? Don't watch.

They were a bit middle class with the silver trays under the rear wheels though, we used to used macdonalds trays, didn't last very long tho

wombat - 3/2/14 at 01:19 PM

Just watched some of it during my lunch break, laughed out loud a couple of times, made me smile for various reasons.
Job done.
Better than watching a lot of stuff thats on Sunday night.................
#justsayin

Irony - 3/2/14 at 03:48 PM

Personally I just think they are simply out of ideas. They need more creative input from external sources. TG was far fetched before but I could sort of believe they were racing across countries etc. But now they don't even try and convince the viewer they are actually doing what they say. The Chuckle Brothers wouldn't even try and convince the viewer that they drove around a abandoned base for 14 hours.

I think you have a good point. There has always been a level of silliness, but in earlier series it was quite funny and added to the appeal. Now it seems that arsing around is the main feature, with the actual challenges being no more than a distraction.

Benzine - 9/2/14 at 07:36 PM

Bump for new episode in 25 mins

big_wasa - 9/2/14 at 07:51 PM

I will still watch it even after last weeks.

JoelP - 9/2/14 at 08:10 PM

I've set it to record so I can skip any bullshit!

Mr C - 9/2/14 at 08:20 PM

Watching it in the hope its better than last week's always been a fan but the gutter humour "staged comedy" and schoolboy retorts wear thin after a while.

Got 4 tickets to see it being filmed for the second time (next wednessday) but not rushing to the studios, I'll probably relinquish the tickets to some genuine fans at the local nursery school

matt5964 - 9/2/14 at 09:03 PM

A proper episode this week

keith777 - 9/2/14 at 10:26 PM

After last weeks crap this one was far better

James - 10/2/14 at 01:39 AM

Finally reviewed the P1!

Fair to say I think they rather liked it!

Will have to get one myself!

James

Duncan36 - 10/2/14 at 09:05 AM

Loved this episode, much much better

Mr C if you don't want them...... I've been on the list for years and applied for every show again this year, but still no luck

coozer - 10/2/14 at 04:57 PM

Yep, decent offering this week, nice Alfa and an awesome review of the P1.
