Strange looking camera on the B1248 Wetwang east yorkshire
sonic - 31/5/16 at 05:06 PM

Hello guys

Does anybody on here live near or use the B1248 into Wetwang?, came through there today and as you drive up to the junction to turn left into Wetwang coming from Howden way there is a strange camera.

I have googled it but nothing comes up in the location and I cannot find any pictures that look like it.

It was a Yellow box with a speed camera sign on it, the box is about an 8 inch oblong, 4 ft off the floor and it has what can only be described as a Gatling type gun barrel on the side about 12 in long.

any ideas?

D-cam speed camera?

sonic - 31/5/16 at 06:17 PM

No, just Googled that and it looks nothing like it.

I have been searching the net for the last half hour and cannot find anything that looks like it or says that there is a camera in the area.

It was on a fixed post but only 3 / 4 feet high off the floor, did have a speed camera sticker on it.

It would be good to hear from somebody who uses the road daily or lives near by, I will be going back up there in a couple of days so I may stop and have a proper look.

Go past it really fast whilst leaning out the window and taking a photo.

Next week post both pictures

myke pocock - 31/5/16 at 07:28 PM

Are you sure that its not a DIY jobbie made by the local scroats with nought else to do with thier time?

swanntech - 31/5/16 at 07:44 PM

wetwang has the best fish and chip shop in yorkshire you should try it

sonic - 31/5/16 at 07:49 PM

No that's not it.

It had crossed my mind it is there annual scarecrow Festival this week, maybe be a dummy. I hope so as it may have got me otherwise.

I will have a look later in the week and take a pic to post here

Andy W - 31/5/16 at 08:22 PM

That's what I was thinking. I've seen a scarecrow dressed as plod with a speed camera the other year.
I agree about the fish and chips though

Andy

hizzi - 31/5/16 at 08:31 PM

could it be one of the new infrared cameras that work in the dark?

sonic - 31/5/16 at 08:35 PM

The thing I found odd is that it was on the grass verge and only about 3-4 ft high, easy for kids and people to mess with, normally they are mounted higher up out of reach

gremlin1234 - 31/5/16 at 08:54 PM

I blame the ducks

prawnabie - 2/6/16 at 07:35 AM

I used to live on Twatling Road in Lickey End!

Sam_68 - 2/6/16 at 08:27 AM

Lickey End is one of my favourites, too.

I've considered moving to Old Sodbury, near me, just because it would seem appropriate. There's a Little Sodbury, just up the road, too.

In a slightly different vein, it would be tempting to buy a place at Gotham, near Nottingham, and register the postal address as 'The Batcave'.

O dear, how do you make the picture smaller ????

dave_424 - 3/6/16 at 08:41 PM

Upload to photo bucket or another image hosting site.

"Ultimate speed gun 30 for a reason!!"

big-vee-twin - 3/6/16 at 08:42 PM

Saw it last night made me step on the brake, but it is their scarecrow week, so think it's a part of that ie it's a gattling gun to shoot speeders -a joke one!

Nice if it was true. Twatling Road is in Lickey. Lickey End is a couple of miles away on the other side of the Motorway.

LBMEFM - 5/6/16 at 05:22 AM

In Hertfordshire there's a village called Ugly and further along the road is Nasty, both have WI's and nr Maidstone in Kent there's the Loose Women's Institute, but no truth in the old joke about the pub in Tillet, Herts.

gingerprince - 5/6/16 at 08:20 AM

I giggle every time I see Cockermouth.

However I grew up in Huddersfield and never had a second thought for Penistone.

There's also a place near Hebden Bridge called "Hoo Hole" which sounds like a "family friendly" orifice description!

owelly - 5/6/16 at 09:33 AM

I often drive through Fryup and on to Bell End.

LBMEFM - 5/6/16 at 06:26 PM

In Kent near me there is the village of Ham near Sandwich hence the famous sign post pointing to Ham Sandwich.
