CKC Llandow cancelled, swap to Blyton?
obfripper - 13/5/21 at 07:24 PM

With this year's CKC Llandow trackday cancelled, I can't make my mind up on whether to swap the booking to Blyton Park, or hang on 'til next year for Llandow.

Llandow is a lot more convienent for me as it's only a 1.5 hour journey & do-able on the day, Blyton looks to be about 6-7 hours with trailer, so makes for the best part of a 3 day round trip and on a bank holiday weekend.

Is the 95dB drive by going to be ok with a currently ~ 101dB static tested exhaust? I know the metered distance is a lot further, but i would say my car is miles noisier at full chat 7k rpm than at 5250 rpm static revs.
I had issues the last time I was at Llandow, but since then a repack of the silencer knocked about 8db off.

I'm also running throttle bodies, are they also likely to be an issue with the drive by limit?

Anyone with experience of driving at both for a back to back comparison?

Dave

I've only ever seen one car fail drive-by at Blyton and that was a dump valve that caused it. The meter is on the slowest corner of the track and a long way back. I'd be amazed if you had an issue.

Blyton is s lot nicer track than Landow.

...and the meter is on the right so away from your exhaust.

Never been to Blyton but not a sniff I would travel 6-7 hours to go on a pretend track on a old airfield!

Put the money towards a track day on a proper track with some features

So no Silverstone or Snetterton or Croft either then?

Blytons a lot better track than you give it credit for. Sure it's no Oulton or Cadwell (lacks the elevation change) but it's not just a few cones on a crappy old runway and better than some "proper tracks"

Off the top of my head... Mallory isn't even close

Blyton is a great track to safely find the limits of your car. Any mistakes are generally miles away from anything you can hit other than maybe the odd cone.

It also has a good mix of fast and slow corners to hone your skills.

As Adi says it's no Cadwell (I've never been to Oulton) but I have still enjoyed driving from Kent up to Blyton a few times. If Llandow is off I would happily try Blyton and the CKC days are well run with like minded drivers and generally zero boy racers in slow old hot hatches

Oulton Park is ideal for kit cars!

No massive long straights and loads of technical bits
