The perfect stocking filler....
chrisg - 10/12/08 at 12:43 PM

...If you have a big rectangular stocking.

This is probably the finest book ever written, let's see what the critics said.

**"It's very nice dear" Mrs J Gibbs

**"One of your own books for my sodding birthday !! you tight get !!" Mrs M Fowler, nee Gibbs

**"what book??" David blunkett

**"I couldn't put it down" Mr Nichols, my vet

On the outside it's just a book about building a sports car but it's So much more!!!

You know that wobbly table you have? This book is EXACTLY the right thickness to fix that!

Having trouble with the noisy next door neighbours megawatt stereo? Buy 20,000 copies of this book and pile them against the party wall, Ah peace at last!!

Are you embarrased by nasty 80's style placemats with pictures of "The Haywain" by John Constable on them? upgrade today to the new "build your own Sports Car" table mats big enough for a man's plate and plenty absorbent!

If all else fails you only need a nail and the smallest room.

Astonish your friends, confound your enemies with the all fairly recent "Build your own Sports Car on a budget"

Hurry because stocks are strictly limited to the number that Haynes twenty massive printing plants throughout the world can churn out.

On a personal note I might not be on here as much as I usually am, I need an operation and I'm trying to save the money from the measley royalties that I receive, I don't care so much for myself but my granny is quite likely to die sometime in the next thirty years and her dying wish is to buy an Ultima and go to Disneyworld.

Also please bare in mind that somwewhere in the world a tiny, cute AND fluffy puppy is kicked over a tree into a pond, Johnny Wilkinson style everytime someone passes a Halfords without buying this book, Do you really want that on your consience?

Available now in all good book shops (and most of the crappy ones)

Click me!!!

Cheers

Chris

already got a copy but you made me chuckle lol....

people still roll their eyes slightly/draw a blank when i start describing the locost/roadster concept to them. It's more a look of "You'll never be able to do it you arse" than "you are boring"...

Mr Whippy - 10/12/08 at 12:52 PM

I bought it ages ago, can I get my money back please??

dubstar_04 - 10/12/08 at 01:02 PM

I've got two copies!

I slept with one then phoned the original ron champion book and left a graphic message on its answer phone...

... the swine!

We should have a raffle.

1st prize: Copy of Chris' book

2nd prize: 2 copies

Agreed with above though, good book.

chrisg - 10/12/08 at 01:23 PM

Be careful.......I'm very sensitive

I accept that all of the above are valid reasons for purchasing said tome, but do you have any thoughts in the investment potential of this revered item?

Cheers

That’s a very good point as once fossil fuels run out we will need something to burn

Interesting.

Looking at Ron's book on the bay, I'm thinking of laying a few aside for my retirement.

Except for the one's I've signed which will be virtually worthless.

I can just see it on Antiques Roadshow in 2108!

Cheers

Chris

02GF74 - 10/12/08 at 01:58 PM

you are preaching to the converted - I already have one too.

chrisg - 10/12/08 at 02:04 PM

Only one?

Woooo, that's brave!

What if your one and only copy was lost or damaged?

You're a hero but, that's just reckless, four copies should be a minimum.

For insurance purposes.

Cheers

do you know how many have been sold so far? what is the commission for a book like that? I'm curious as I was thinking of doing a how too book also.

chrisg - 10/12/08 at 02:33 PM

Stay off my patch!!!

I'm not allowed to say how many have been sold as it's commercially sensitive for Haynes but it's been reprinted twice.

The royalties aren't enough for you to give up your day job!

Cheers

Chris

That model book reminds me of when I was at primary school and I made a cardboard model of a Ford Anglia (or Angular - the one with the rear window sloping the wrong way)... don't laugh, but it was a newish car at the time

The kids don't need new shoes again Chris??

procomp - 11/12/08 at 09:04 AM

Hi.

"I can just see it on Antiques Roadshow in 2108!"

It will be on the Antiques roadshow in the next series with it being based on the Sierra.

Cheers Matt

chrisg - 11/12/08 at 04:59 PM

I'm sure I could find a Sierra if I could get out of the drive for all those Mark two Escorts blocking me in!!

Cheers

Chris

procomp - 12/12/08 at 09:53 AM

Hi

Don't let the locost racers know you have all the Escorts. They will all be round in no time flat wanting the diffs.
Don't suppose you have any Cosworth built Duratecs and Hewland six speed sequential boxes laying around amongst all the antiques your collecting. Ill take a load of them.

Cheers Matt
