For you guys with bullet cams and the like I have a choice of either
GoPro Motorsports Hero Wide
or
Archos 605 + Sony 520 Bullet cam
But which to go for!
The GoPro 2gb sd appeals as it is just one unit, very light, no wires, waterproof, wide-screen, low wind noise and I like the idea it can take photos
every 5 seconds automatically though poor battery life?
Archos 4gb (solid state) + 16gb sd + Bullet cam, put bullet cam anywhere, robust, long battery life, viewable screen, remote mic, larger storage but a
lot of wires and quite bulky
Anyone had any experience of either?
I think I'm heading towards the gopro as i do other sports too. hmm
I've just bough a go pro wide and whilst the video is OK the sound is a bit crap. It has 2 settings - lo and Hi. On high you can't hear
anything when mounted on the Indy as the mic is overloaded resulting in lots of white noise. On low you don't hear much at all.
Having said that I've only used it once so maybe I can change where it is mounted and improve things, but so far I'm not very impressed. If
it had a remote mic it would be much better.
Stu
Solid state video recorder + Bullet camera + external mic.
I used a JXD-990, a cheap bullet camera and an external mic, all from eBay. Total cost about £60 and the video can be seen here:

Basically what you see here except the camera head is black. Only used a couple of times so pretty mint. Purchased in January for £490
I want to swap for a decent set of 15 or even better a set of 16 inch wheels with a sensible offset for a inca van.
Anything considered
Could also add a set of Gotti cups ( just like ats cups) for more expensive ones. They are on my van just now and good condition with decent tyres. I
just don't like them.
I have the Archos set up..
I find it bl***Y usless.
And a PITA to use.
I used a cheap Olympus Mju camera set to video for this,
and found the picture and sound much better than the £300+ Archos

I have an Archos type device, useless... very grainy.
Mate at work got a couple of these

One for the front, one for the rear, he rates them very highly, having tried more expensive non HD stuff they are much better.
At this price it must be worth a punt, if rubbish give to the kids for Christmas

What about Linky
or the 5K version of the same thing.
Video is the easy part. My Pentax A30 does better video than the Gopro, and compresses it much more effieciently, but on the Indy the only sound I get
is wind noise. It also doesn't like the rain as I discovered on my last track day!
What is really needed is a cheapish waterproof video camera with an external mic.
