OT: Paint for Kenwood Chef Refurb
Irony - 25/11/11 at 03:24 PM

Sorry a bit off topic.....

I am refurbing a old kenwood chef. It's in good mechanical condition but the paintwork around the metal base is chipped and coming off and the top plastic cover is scratched etc. I was thinking of powdercoating the metal base but that still leaves me with the plastic top cover.

Can anyone recommend me a good spray paint that would be okay to use on both the metal base and the plastic cover? I need a good tough finish that will be okay for the kitchen.

Cheers

As long as you use the right primer, car body paint will be fine on both. plastic primer for the plastic, and probably etch primer on the metal... Then just coat with whatever colours you want!

I can't help you yet, but I'd like to know too as I'm thinking of doing the same myself

I need to find a new top cover before its worth doing it to mine - its split in 5 places
(mine's an A901)

Halfords rattle can car paint is pretty good if you get the surface key right

Mine is a A901 as well. Snaffled it off ebay from a 'Buy it Now' auction that was underpriced. The seller must have been shocked that they listed it and it was quickly bought.

I was thinking of some sort of rattle can but I thought a tougher finish might be required from kitchen purposes. I can just see my other half scrubbing it with a scouring pad.

nice one they are great machines.
I got mine from my mum, its done 33 years hard labour and still going as strong

just got to build up the courage to strip down, clean and re-grease the gearboxes - and I might need to put a bush in the main hinge bit, the holes are getting quite oval now but it still works despite it

and thats still alot cheaper than spending £300+ on a new one....

I am thinking a hammerite spray might be the way forward but I have never used it. Anyone?

Plastic bumper primer then Hycote Double Acrylic (fantastic stuff) then 2K clear Lacquer Aerosol (!) ( ebay search)
