its hard to choose as there are loads of good places around the minster and shambles...

old white swan is my favorite....v.nice food...good beer....and not too pricey.

blue bicycle is also v.good food but a touch expensive.

I can't remember any other names but I've never had a bad meal there!!!

Go here, highly recommended, I'll be visting when I am in York next month.... You may have to book for a Friday or Saturday night to get a table. A 5 minute walk from the Minster:

ps....in my opinion york is one of the best city breaks avalible in this country!

I'm not a big fan of city breaks.....but I wouldn't miss a chance to have a weekend up there

We keep stopping at a B&B called the apple house. it's just outside the walls and allows dogs. The owners are great, prices are good and the quality is top-notch (....they are ntdwm...just a happy customer)

Definitely - to the point where I came here for the first time 12 years ago and didn't leave

Blue Bicycle is worth a go - its got a bit of history to it too (though not many places here don't!)

The Blind Swine is a quirky option, very 'Heston Blumenthal'. Good luck with the waiting list...

I like the Olive tree next to the castle, which is a Mediterranean restaurant run by an Egyptian.

There's also a Loch fine opposite the Blue bicycle and a great Italian just down the road from the bike -forget its name.

The blue bicycle also has apartments above to stay in called the blue rooms - It used to be a Hore House!!

Another great Italian is Delrios near the station - he's open on Sundays!

Cheers guys

I'm afraid drinking isn't on the cards - the GF's now 4.5 months pregnant so she wouldn't be best pleased (to put it mildly) if I dragged her out to watch other people drink....
