Please save me from the Star wars acronym!
Mr Whippy - 6/1/16 at 08:47 AM

Some folk at work who shall remain nameless are insisting we call a new document, the Estimate Workbook (really a new excel CTR) a EWOK.

Personally I think this totally sucks but so far have not been able to come up with a good alternative, this is quite an important document and to call it obviously after a cheesy furry Star Wars character is a bit well amateur in my eye’s, especially considering how much work we put into this document.

Can anyone offer an alternative?? Thanks in advance (please no Star Wars or stupid alternatives)

Most people will not realize the connection, of those that do the majority will be physics nerds and like it.

Lighten up and let the force be with you.

Cheers!

I quite like it, providing no other docs have Starwars names, or its starts a trend.
A one off doesn't sound unprofessional or cheezy to me.

Our server at work has been called Kryten for many years & that's a bit of a trigger's broom in terms of hardware.

Old Nerds just get older and the young guys don't get the name any more.

How about EstBo

In the voice of Alec Guinness :

"Mr Whippy, These are not the problems your are looking for. Move on."

It's an abbreviation not an acronym, but what about Special Estimate Workbook or SPEW

Whippy - as a fan of Star Wars (original films) I share your dislike of the name, but on the other hand I do think you should move on and worry about something more important.

I've seen the latest Star Wars and it smacks me as wealthy old people trying to cream a little more from the success. Probably quite natural, but they're all getting on a bit and could do something else.

An acronym is a form of abbreviation.

'EBW' looks good to me.

I guess if you're worried about this, you're either in the public sector and/or high up in the food chain.

Does it even need an acronym? I could understand if it was a long title but Estimate Workbook is relatively snappy on it's own...

Call a spade a spade.

How about Joint Estimate Workbook Initiative?

Makes me chuckle that you have to point out that your only a fan of the original films. Take your rose tinted specs off and try and watch 'A New Hope' with fresh eyes without nostalga getting in the way. It is a totally average film. It is only made good by the fact its part of a trilogy.

I do however agree about some things are more important than a crappy spreadsheet name.
