You should read Annie Jacobson's book Area 51 if you're into that kind of thing. Some amazing stories from pilots and engineers who worked on secret programmes.
We need a "like" button on here, interesting to hear these fella,s speak
Thanks for putting this up, BT. I read his book "Sled Driver" ages ago, and it is really good - worth a read if you can get hold of a copy.
In it he goes into detail about driving the SR-71, and how hard it was; things like not getting the engine intake cones positioned correctly and
having an engine stall at Mach 3 - both he and his co-pilot ended up with their helmets slammed against the side of the cockpit as the plane jolted to
one side. Scary.
He's a really good speaker too - I liked the story of his first flight, and the extra cheese!
Very interesting clip, thanks for posting.
Just watched this (should have been working )
I've read sled-driver, but seeing this talk was awesome. thanks for posting.
I like a good book.
Just checked ebay for Sled Driver and it appears to be £300
Might try the local library for a copy.
If you're interested in this, then you might like this video about the SR-71 engines... clever, very clever...

I noticed the books they're selling are very limited run, and some of them are signed. I think it would be worth it as a collector's item.
Managed to watch the Youtube video (in sections) over the weekend - FANTASTIC!
The chap has suffered some great hardships in life, but really is an inspiration to keep pushing and try harder.
The section where he recounts various pilots asking air traffic control for a ground speed had me in stitches Mainly because I couldn't have
done it any different myself had I been in the SR-71. I don't see it as showing off, merely getting some perspective on things.
