What fun it must be to actually have an ammo budget!

It must be some seriously huge budget! Looks fun though:
Even more scary when you consider the rounds you see are only about one in every 50 fired!!

I thought they were about 1 in 10, but it doesnt matter. Still an awsome amount of fire power.

I think someone (might have been me) posted this vid up a while ago!

Those chain gun rounds are probably 25mm as well, hence the amount of damage they do. They are also travelling faster than the speed of sound, and so you wouldnt even hear it if you were hit by one...

nicksertis - 24/6/05 at 03:33 PM

Yeah, but only if you were hit by the first blast, otherwise I reckon you'd notice this baby comin'! Not that you'd have time to do anything about it mind you...

UncleFista - 24/6/05 at 03:37 PM

They actually fire 7.62mm rounds, they dabbled with 5.56mm but found it "lacking"

mackie - 24/6/05 at 04:09 PM

The daddy of these things is the 30mm GAU-8/A 7 barrel gun used in the A10 Tankbuster and the Goalkeeper ship defence weapon (as seen in Under Siege).

Utterly utterly awesome!

The Shootist - 24/6/05 at 04:35 PM

The mini-gun on the chopper is a 7.62 and fires the .308 NATO round. Thing is it has a variable cyclic rate from 4-6 THOUSAND ROUNDS PER MINUTE. This rate of fire will eat through even armor.

The 30mm used on the A-10 is about 4 thousand rounds per minute, and has roughly 20 TIMES the muzzle horsepower of the 105mm Howitzers that were mounted on B-25 bombers in WWII. There is no mobile armor on earth that can withstand a sustained fire cycle from the 30mm. Each round from these guns will wear away a layer of armor with each successive round going a little deeper.

A 20mm version is on the F-16 and is mounted so the muzzle gas can't enter the engine as the volume of gas could stall the jet engine.

Join the Army, see the world, Kill people.

Join the army and see exotic places, meet exotic people and catch exotic diseases.
