Is anyone else using a 8v Vauxhall engine.
I am in my astra. do me a favour and LEAVE IT IN AN ASTRA!!!
Its s**t imho
I had a westy with a 2.0 8v vx engine, unsure what car it came from but with hayabusa tb's omex ecu, got it up to 180bhp - no other engine mods,
could rev the tits off it.
I had the car for over 2 years and no sign of engine troubles, i would put another one in if i was thinking of building, but the red top engine is a
bit more tempting for mods etc.
If you want pictures i could dig some out for you.
I had one in a 2.0 Carlton..
It was nice untill I had to do a head gasket. For some reason it would not torque down. I did not like the seperate cam carrier either.
Sadly engine issues made the car unviable and we parted company.
First and only Vauxhall I have ever owned.
I guess there's a lot of tuning kit for the SOHC like the Pinto. But you may as well just search out an XE or a LET if your realy feeling
funky...
My m8 swears by his VX's..
I guesss if it's what you have then it may be worth it as a first engine.
TT
Completely depends on the engine,
the 20se and seh items are good like torquey items (from mk2 cav sri 130 and alike)
the 14nz and c14se are great like 1.4 versions.
there are plenty of single point injection and low power ones from the base corsa/astras/cavs etc but on the whole their great, bullet proof engines.
I am running a 2.0SEH engine in my MK running standard injection 130bhp standard, I have got a secondhand polished and ported head and Kent cam to put
on it just woundered what other people have done.
Thanks Matty

What kind of power did the Caterham cars make and how did they get it?
You could try places like Migweb and vauxsport.
Alternatively, you could just bolt on a Redtop - gearbox & mounts would all be the same, just the exhaust and intake side would need a few
changes.

Only about 100bhp for the 1.6. Not that highly tuned but cheap as chips.

Just like the 20XE the 16XE engines are extremely tunable.
