Removing Duratec Head...
scootz - 30/4/10 at 01:01 PM

... when my MX5 (1.8 MZR) engine arrived, I noticed that the exhaust ports had not been bunged up, so I'm going to take the head off just to be sure that no crap has got in there.

Any 'musts' whilst I'm at it? Is the Duratec head particularly responsive to porting and polishing, or will it be a case of minor gain for a fair bit of effort? VVT... worth keeping, or should I disable it? Etc...

Cheers!

As far as I'm aware, the ports are very good as standard and it would be a case of a lot of effort for minor gains.

If you're unsure, then you may as well go for it now, whilst the heads off and theres no faffing around at a later date. But is it a necessity? No, probably not.

Might be easier and cheaper and quicker to buy one of those 'peep down little hole camera thingies' from Maplins to look down the plug holes.

One of these linky...???

Could be just the very thing... thanks for the heads-up! Off to find out where it's made... if it's China, then it's a no-no!

Beware of polishing, it does little except look bling, a bit of rough in the inlet ports is better for stopping the fuel puddling

Sorry, thought I saw it sunday in the free ads. Wrong. It was in a promo from Firebox.
Firebox.
Might be chinese but cheaper than your linky.
