zetec 2.0l blacktop best set up for locost
hubby - 8/6/11 at 09:41 AM

hi I was wondering what set up you have on your 2.0l zetec blacktop, eg ign, fuel, and any cheap upgrades i want to know the best bhp for the money as this is locost SO MUST BE CHEAP. if possible what power you kicking out. Is their any reason why i should change my type 9 to a mt75. THANKS IN ADVANCE

First and easy answer is a t9 is tried and tested on a zetec and should be fine.

Need more info on whats best on the rest...Will it need iva ?

Iva-ing a black to will need a cat and fuel injection. If your doing an upgrade on registered car it wont.

And what are you calling "LOCOST" Locost is bugger all to some and a fortune to others.

Ah, simple question, so many answers.....

Depends what pwoer you are after. Ultimate max power at 7000rpm, or after something more suitable at 3000rpm?
I suspect the cheapest option is the std ford ecu setup, but not ultimately as quick as aftermarket stuff, but will drive well.
Or (if you can get away with it) bike carbs and a megajolt.
After that it is injection, cheapest being a megasquirt setup and bike throttlebodies. Ultimate will be Titan barrel TB's (but not locost!)

A little more info will be most helpful. But generally for a cheapish setup expect 140-170bhp.

sorry should of been a bit clearer car is already on the road has 2.0l pinto in at the moment but feels so slow my 110hp diesel feels faster i know i could add bike carbs/twin weber's, cams etc but i want a modernish engine. i know about the sump mod and the exhaust comes out from the other side. just wanted to know things like whats better for power megasquirt with bike throttle bodies but dont know how much of a pain this is or cost wise or just bike carbs with megajolt etc etc cheers

My 2.0 Blacktop installation was very lowcost using ZX6R carbs and Megajolt.

I also got hold of a seconhand westfield CVH exhaust manifold which I modified to fit the Zetec.

I´ve not had it on an RR but it goes very well and seems as fast on trackdays as any other Zetec on standard internals.

Stu

even more confused now as was looking at http://www.diyautotune.com and they list microsquirt and megasquirt 1,2 and 3 and the pnp and god knows else

If you are going bike carbs then megajolt is all that is needed along with the EDIS unit from and escort or automatic mondeo. set up correctly will give you 150 bhp plus on a rr you may see 165 ish

Megajolt supplier - Trigger-Wheels

As stated you'll need ann EDIS 4 module from an older Ford as well.
