Pulleys
belgian2b - 15/3/12 at 08:52 PM

Hello,

i am trying to change the cambelt on my 27 years old engine.

I can find no way to take the V belt pulley on the crankshaft out

So i am thinking of cutting it.

So does somebody have a pulley for sale??

Gerardo

PS : i have tried WD40 .
Is there something else i could try ?

i guess more info would help. perhaps a photo? is it that the bolt has just seized? someone who knows more than me will be along soon, but I would try heat, soak with light oil for as long as possible, a few well aimed whacks with a hammer on the bolt ? very long extension?

Dunno what engine so this is just general advice -

The bolt holding the pulley is best undone with an impact air gun if you have access to one. Alternatively you need to chock the flywheel to stop the engine turning and the use a long breaker bar.

Assuming the bolt is loose, use a gear puller or homemade equivalent to pull the pulley off - they are usually on very tight, especially at that age.

try heating it and wd40 then a little gentle persuasion withe the puller and a hammer

As the other ideas soak with anti seize spray[WD 40] ,put the puller on the pulley then hit the front face off the pulley with a copper hammer to shock it, then try and tension the puller somemore and do the same ...

Get the keyway at TDC and fill it up with penertrating oil, leave for i day but keep topping up. Then Belt the side of pulley while pulling with puller but keep tuning it 120 deg`s. It will come off. I would use steel 2lb hammer you will get more of a shock.

Soak it in Plusgas and leave for awhile, then use the puller
If that don't work you'll have to get some heat on it (carefully)

Also Check the crank pulley very carefully for cracks as i've seen quite a few on these engines

is that the double-V pulley with the rubber isolator bit in the middle ??

if it is they are a PITA, I tried several pullers on mine but in the end a big hammer adn some releasing oil did the trick
(I had the crank off the engine at the time)

be careful with it if its the earlier solid single-V one, they are prone to cracking

Hello,

it's one week now that i am trying and it 's making me crazy.

I am fighting with the double v belt pulley ( with the rubber ring).
It is on the engine and i don't want to dissasemble the crankshaft.

So , i think i will cut it.

Does somebody have one available ?
