Rosejointed crossflow alternator bracket
philfingers - 20/12/12 at 09:42 AM

Made a alternator bracket adjuster with some rod ends and hex bar which I turned down in the lathe. Came out well, alternator wasn't aligned so spent more time getting that right than making the adjuster. It has LH and RH rod ends, so very easy to adjust, just twiddle it to the right tension and nip the nuts up! Using a 800mm belt.
Here's the pics

OoooH!!!! Nice. That's definitely a "Like".

So where did you get LH rose joint? Pls advise.

I shall be fiddling in this area - (when the weather warms up!).

Now I saw Ford Pinto/Xflow/Crossflow Adjustable Alternator Bracket (Red) on eBay the other day and thought it was a great idea! I was considering buying one for my Zetec install, but holding fire for the moment.

Out of curiosity, how much would you say it cost you in terms of materials, time etc.? Could be a market for this....

Very neat and tidy.

McGill Motorsport is a good source of RJs. They also make premade turnbuckles:

Got to be better than what Ford fitted.

Seeing as there’s so many posts in an hour! I could do them for £14.00 inc recorded delivery, payment into bank account, £14.60 with paypal. Cheaper than £28.50 on ebay!
The stock one will be sized for crossflow with 800mm belt, as mine is BUT you could extend them by 1.5”ok. Can be made to length tho for other applications
LMK if you’re interested and I’ll order more material

I made something very similar a while ago for my alternator. As I didn't have a left hand tap at the time I just used 2 RH threaded rose joints and drilled the hex bar clearance at one end and tapped the other end. This means that the belt tension holds it together but never had a problem .

Are the £5 McGill ones no good then?

philfingers - 20/12/12 at 12:19 PM

Sorry, should elaborate. Mcgill ones all too long- for cross flow anyway, mine is 2.25" I think.
Good LH tap is £20
You don't need a lathe to machine them but easier and more accurate.

philfingers - 20/12/12 at 12:53 PM
