oil leak from type 9?
AndyW - 7/4/14 at 09:00 PM

Hi all,

I appear to have an oil leak from my type 9 gear box. Could I be daft and not have a speedo drive in as I'm using a digi dash with magnet. Would oil spray out if the speedo drive was missing? I have removed the tunnel top but cant see where the speedo drive is. Does anyone have a diagram of the type 9 which shows this.

The leak appears to be on the right hand side just past the gear lever and slightly lower as you look from the drivers seat.

Any help appreciated.

thanks

Andy

In that area is the reverse lamp switch, could be an easy fix

Sounds like it's near where the speedo drive is?

I would guess the blanking plug on the reverse side of the speedo drive.

Checked the reverse switch and that's dry with no leaks

Which side of the box would that be on, when looking from in the car, as the left hand side is dry and the right side is wet.

Think I need to get out and have a good root around for this blanking plug or speedo drive

Any one got a picture of their locations?

Depending on the age of your box the filler plug may be to high causing the box to be overfilled. I've seen a post somewhere showing the different heights of the filler plugs , can't remember where though. It is possible your leak is just due to overfilling. The speedo drive is at the lower rear right hand side of the gearbox tail housing and the plug is on the left hand side.

I did think that Mel, as my filler plug is quite high, I am going to have a feel around later and see if the leak is coming form the sensor area or not!! hopefully just a case of a bit too much oil and soon will be ok again!!!
