anyone running quite high power through a type 9 what clutch do you run?

i have around 260lbft and run a 7.25 ap racing single plate clutch but its savage and not nice at all to use.

im wanting to know if can change to a paddle and it will take the torque and make it more drivable

thanks

Speak to Helix - they do sprung centred paddle type and heavy duty organic plates which should help your situation

jeffw - 30/11/15 at 09:42 AM

I have a 200mm lightweight flywheel with a sprung AP clutch which copes with 300 ft/lb. All from Burtons.

is it a 6 or 4 paddle Jeff?

jeffw - 30/11/15 at 11:37 AM

from memory a 4 paddle. I'll get the details for you when I get home.

309ftlb with mine and the standard ford galaxy clutch is fine

jambojeef - 30/11/15 at 12:21 PM

Ben,

Thats really interesting - what flywheel are you using?

Galaxy clutch and pressure plate?

Geoff

Hi mate. Vauxhall 8v flywheel from C20NE I believe and Galaxy 2.8 petrol friction plate with Vauxhall pressure plate.

Bit of a mix of components!

jambojeef - 30/11/15 at 01:31 PM

cool cheers for that!

Wonder if that clutch plate would be too big for my vvc flywheel

mark chandler - 30/11/15 at 01:44 PM

I had helix make up a 6 paddle sprung clutch for my DB7, 385hp 370ft/lb torque, 240mm it feels like a standard organic clutch apart from very little snatching if you try and pull away with very low revs.

It provides a much lighter pedal with their matched cover than the original DMF effort it replaced, I was concerned it would be on/off, that's not the case in my instance.

215mm flywheel with

AP CP5354-38 clutch
AP CP2511-1 cover

288 ft lb

I'm actually going to be taking this off the care as I really need a 184mm flywheel clutch for the Sequential. This 4 paddle is heavy (with cable clutch) but you can slip it fine and it drives on the road fine.

i have a 184mm currently and want to go the other way, if you want to buy my ap setup drop me a pm, its rated over 300lbft

ill speak with ap regards your part numbers, the issue i am having is getting a cover to do the job without it being £700 that ap are quoting

jeffw - 30/11/15 at 08:29 PM

Drop me a PM with the details of your setup and I'll take a look.

the 215mm setup will be less than £700 for the cover plate/clutch/flywheel. Have a look at the Burton site for prices.

Hi Ben

A small deviation in topic, but why the 8v flywheel? Lighter?/stronger?/Cheaper?

Lightweight and it's the only flywheel that I could find that would fit due to the bolt pattern on the z20let. Different to the older c20lets. The original flywheel was a big lump and not very sporty.

My helix 6 paddle from mardigras Motorsport 6 paddle kit is £450.13 plus vat last year + £25 for a new release bearing.

there is no cover that will take the torque i have in the correct fitment that is the issue i have, friction plate is not an issue there are loads of options at the right price.

im running the ford sigma engine and ap only rate there pressed steel cover to 196lbft.

i have spoke to ttv they will make me a flywheel and clutch but again im looking around that £700 mark

jeffw - 1/12/15 at 09:17 AM

I maybe barking up the wrong tree here but...

My flywheel/cover/ paddle are all for a Pinto. If you have a 215mm flywheel that will take a Pinto clutch made for the Sigma then you can use the same AP items as mine. 1" x 23 will be the same regardless.
