best way to blank off a hose outlet (cast ali plenum)
bi22le - 1/10/16 at 07:28 AM

As I very slowly continue on with the car mods I have a problem I am undecided on.

The GTiR plenum has an out let for some sort of hose, approx 40mm dia.

I dont want this and in an ideal world I would cut it off flush and weld a blank over it.

Is this possible? The other thing I was going to do was cut it flush then drill and bolt a plate over the top. Again, thoughts?

I've done it in the past with a turned plug 'glued' in with something like JB weld.

If it's not getting in the way of anything can you not use a small section of silicone hose with a blanking plug in the end of it?

Yes you could weld it up, but based on experience of welding to a casting there's a good chance of it being porous, not necessarily a problem as long as you seal it with epoxy filler after.

I want it to look propa' as I am putting so much effort into the rest of it.

So silicone hose and / or plug is not good enough.

I think im going to go down the route of cutting off and bolting on. There is a lot of marerial to either tap or drill all of the way through and bolt.

Personally I think silicone would look better than a bolted on patch... you can run the pipe where ever you like and cap it off so it looks like it's meant to be there. Plus no chance of air leaks from that method. Only my opinion though

And its as valued as mine. Thats why I asked!

Ill consider it. See where it can run to and what it may look like.

I turned up a solid ABS bung for a GTIR plenum, but ended up going a different route & getting a piper cross airbox. Sold the GTIR plenum but pretty sure I kept the bung.

If you want it & if I can find it I will happily post it out to you, could be glued in if needed, let me know & I will hunt for it.

I am in the process of moving house so will probably need a few weeks to unpack though.
