MT75 input shaft spanner
axle - 28/12/18 at 10:10 AM

Hi all
I need to replace the input shaft oil seal on the MT75 I think I need to fabricate something with a socket and long tube to get over the shaft. I am not sure of the socket size ( 46 mm bi hex ? )
Has anyone done this or any idea of the size of socket?

I made a "special" deep socket by basically welding two cheap sockets together, I would add a pic but hopeless at uploading photos on here.

36mm bi-hex though I thought. Either way in worked but this was on a MT75 4X4 box in my Escort which may be different.

Hi
Thanks for your reply this was the route I was thinking of going down , but need to be sure of the socket size as I need to cut it before it can be tried on the box. It does sound like you are right that that your box was different from mine.

Thanks again for your reply and attempts in up loading the photos

I've done a Rear seal on one of these but not a Front

BUT when I did the Front one I sent an email to www.Gearboxman.co.uk and they were really helpful and offered some really good advice about doing this whilst keeping the gearbox still in the 7

Might be worth an email or phonecall if you don't have any luck on here ?

You can get the factory tool but it’s around £70 ouch.

Ten years ago you would just bin the box but there getting hard to find now.

According to the manual it’s tool number is.

308-109

Thanks for the feed back on the size. How tight was it ?

axle - 14/1/19 at 12:23 PM

It was hell of a tight, there was no way it could have been done on the car. I had to bolt the box with a lever than get my mate to hold it, with a 4 feet lever it eventually gave up.

Thought it may be.
