tin top probs

a mates car is having some problems and you guys never fail to solve any problem.
so here goes, its a proton (stop sniggering at the back) and the problem is quite complex, firstly if you drive for a few miles then turn it off, leave it for say 15mins then try to start, it wont, starter motor turns engine but no attempt to fire.
and will be fine after a couple of hours.

secondly it intermitantley cuts out for no apparent reason while driving, the fuel relay clicks and everything cuts out, occasionally it will start straight away when this happens.

occasionally when accelerating it has a slight judder dont know if this is related but he says this can get more frequent the longer the distance

he has taken it to 2 garages first one changed dizzy, second one changed a ht lead and plugs,

any suggestions/help is much appreciated

chris

It might help if you provided more info, for instance, what sort of fuel system does it have? There have been several different models/types going back more than 20 years

Sounds exactly like the main relay circuit board fault that used to occur on 90s Hondas --- on Hondas resoldering the joints on the circuit board in side the realy usually fixed it.

The ignition and fueling systems on the Persona are not that different from Honda.

On Hondas the main relay was located somewhere behind the dash board ----- it was just a case of finding it (usually it can be located by the sound of click when the ignition is turned on or off) opening it up and fixing the soldered joints.
