Blu-Ray DVD Players
The PS3 has packed up and will be going in my sons bedroom when it comes back from a free repair by Sony.
SO I'm on the lookout for a Blu-Ray DVD player for the main HD TV in the lounge. Anyone got one that's good, recommendations, what not to
buy etc?
Can't seem to fine a 5.1 all in one system for less than £500, any ideas?
I take it they all play std DVD's/CD's as well as Blu-Ray

I'd go for the low spec PS3. I believe its still the cheapest on the market, theyre new so have worked out the early PS3 niggles and I hear that
Sony do free repairs if it goes wrong.

I don't want another PS3, i just want a player, pref 5.1 all in one if i can find one cheap enough.
My PS3 is getting repaired free even though it's out of warranty and will reside in my eldest son's room.

Don't think you'll get an all in 1 system but should be able to get separates for your budget.
Take a look at richer sounds - there's a few Blu-ray players there for under £200 if the local store has them in stock

Play had a Samsung jobby just before Christmas for a 150 quid. My brother bought one & it does a grand job.
I agree with stevebubs. Have not seen all in one blu ray systems as of yet.

Been looking about on the net and i may be better off keeping the PS3 in the lounge and getting a amp/speaker set then i can plug in the Sky+HD box
too!!!

Andy,
I use the PS3 for Blu Ray on a full HD tv and pass the sound to a Sony DAV 5.1 surround system - works very nicely and the Sony is really easy to set
up for some impressive results.

I did used to have a Sony DAV system, interesting thought! I have been looking at home theatre amps and most of them are very tall and i don't
have much room as i have 2 shelves, 1 for the PS3 (Which is tall) and one for the Sky+HD box which i would also like to plumb into the AV amp!

I would not go for the all in one solution, better if you can to get seperates
For Speakers and Amp I got these

Very pleased with both for the price.
Good budget buy Bluray Player
Seems to get a some good reviews
on Amazon

My DAV is smaller than my Sky Box (also a DVD player).
You're all right about the external Amps though - I also have a home cinema setup with a Yamaha DSP 5.1 amp - 6 x 105w rms  , it's
twice the height and weighs 8kg!

Solved my speaker option! I had a pair of Creative stereo speakers sitting on a shelf doing nothing and plugged them into the TV.....WOW! 1000 times
better than the TV's built in jobbies! They will do me!
So...do i keep the PS3 with the TV and have my kids permanently attached or get a Blu Ray player and put the PS3 in the kids room. This has the added
benefit of them not bothering me all the time!!

if you cam sretch your budget a seperate amp with HDMI switching will give awesome performance, so long as your speakers are up to the job and your
cabinet can take the bulk of an amp. as for sky hd, you dont want an amp running all the time your tv is on as they run at quite high wattage! onkyo
amps are truly superb.

I got a Sony Blu-Ray with my TV and its great. It is also an upsscaler so plays normal DVDs at 1080p.
Also upgraded my surround sound system and bought a Denon 1909 AV Reciver and Kef speakers from Sevenoaks. They were really helpful.
Denon is also an upscaler so any signal you put through it gets upscaled to 1080 which includes non HD tv and the Nintendo Wii

I think i'm sorted on the speaker front...for now at least. I just need to decide wether to keep the PS3 in the lounge or send it upstairs with

I use my 5.1 everytime I use my TV, I use a Logitech Harmony remote too it's all on one button. I managed to get a Pioneer amp that is nice and
slim to - from Richer Sounds.
Definitely go for seperates....
If you're not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room.

Do most AV amps come with 2xoptical inputs as it would be nice to have both the Sky+HD box and PS3 going through 5.1?
Or do they have optical and HDMI sockets?

my amp only has one optical input but i got a 3 way switchable optical splitter to run my things through it
