purely out of interest
Are there any diesel engines out there that will mate up to commnly used RWD gearboxes as used in 7 style cars.
Engines such as the 2.0 hdi from the pug 306 etc, these are relatively cheap and torquey with 100+ bhp and can be remapped easily.
Just curious.

A duratorq ought to mount to a t9 with a duratec bellhousing fitted...torque might not do it any good though!

If you're lucky, you may find a manual Omega diesel...comes complete with RWD box...

Actually thats a point, the transit 6 speed which is fitted to the diesels and petrols will bolt straight to a duratec too... first is useless
though!

I was wondering if the 2.5td pug engine in ldv's has the same bolt pattern as the the smaller diesel pugs or hdi engines. because some ldvs run
a ford box with a adapter plate to go on the pug engine..
In theory Hdi or xud, adapter plate then ford box.
Get the right engine/inj pump and go veggie oil

the ford TDCi/PSA HDi have same bolt pattern as zetec as they share gearboxes. BUT there are not many rwd boxes that will take the torque.
the newer MT75 used in the transit (6 speed) seems obvious choice but apparently there incredibly unreliable... the older version (1994?-2000?) may be
OK.
best to go mid engine and use the standard gearbox IMO.

Jag Turbo diesels 2.0, 2.2 (4 cyls), 2.7 V6 are rwd (and this also goes in fwd peugeot/citroen too), then there's BMW tdi's incl the
200+bhp 123(?)d.
However, Jag have just launched the XF 3l diesel s which gets the XF to 60 in under 6 secs (and 42ish mpg), but I doubt you'll find a breaker
any time soon

I think the vauxhall 1.3, 1.7 and 1.9 cdti engines all use the std GM flange and therefore the omega box would fit.
A v6 omega has 200ftlbs torque so the 150bhp 1.9 tdi should be fine.
Would make a cool car!

There is an XUD/HDI solution - the LDV Pilot (original 200 Sherpa) used an XUD with a Rover R380 box.
The Convoy/Sherpa 300 had a right collection of engines over the years - L series/Perkins (so anything which fitted an O series - LT77, I think), Pug
(not sure) and the Trannie 2.5/MT75 combo.
Only issue with van boxes is they tend to have wierd gear linkages which would probably put the lever level through the scuttle...
