Starter Problem

Just come to start up for the first time the Zetec having removed the Xflow.

When trying to start I just get the click. Done the usual checks different battery, engine turning by hand, cleaned connections.

Have removed the starter and operated, whilst the solenoid is moving the gear to engage position the gear is not spinning.

From this I assume the starter has had it. Can anyone think of anything I've missed before I bin it and get another one.

Thanks

Ian

I had this on a mini i rebuilt, and it was the terminals on the starter. Check those before condemning it to the bin. There should be a little braided link between the motor and the solenoid.

yep keep having same problem with my rover, check the braided connection, if its there and looks intact also take off the outer casing of the motor (two or three bolts on ends) and check to see the braided connection is still soldered onto the terminal inside - my rover had this connection broken and got the click of death!

Check you have reconnected the earth strap between the engine and the chassis.
