SVA Fail Birmingham
My Vindi family sprint
went in for it's SVA on Thursday and failed - but all on pretty trivial stuff :
The handbrake was good enough for an MOT but not for SVA...
The reflectors on the back were triangular - and they're only allowed on trailers
some extra fastenings needed on a couple of cables, etc.
well chuffed that there wasn't anything more serious !

I must admit that since this was the first family sprint to go through SVA I got vindicator to take it in for me - but the feedback I got was the
birmingham SVA peeps were very helpful.

All lgood stuff.
May I make a suggestion for a post SVA mod?
If you added another section onto the cage to bring it forward and then angled down to the scuttle as per a full locost cage, then this would take
away a lot of the "square and boxy" look for the car...and have the added benefit of making the fun family car a little safer.

outside (before the interior went in):
this is all I've got online at the moment, but it's going through as a 5 seater (and SVA were fine with that !) and has more legroom in
the back than any production car I've been in.

We are also building a Sprint Family - ours goes to SVA on 23 April. We are doing ours as a 4 seater rather than 5. Pictures on our build web site

Well done Piran - lets hope all three of the families are on the road soon. Unfortunately we cannot get the car to John as no tow bar on either car -
so driving to SVA outselves. If we can get the damn thing started. Having trouble at the mo.

It was certainly a relief to find that it failed on such minor items, mind you I hadn't heard the one about not having triangular reflectors
before !?

Id heard about the reflectors before.
You are only allowed round or square on a car. although I have seen hand shaped ones for sale.

ours is not to reason why. lol
We have a set of rules that we have to conform to and the mainstream production cars have a different set of rules and they pay a damn site more than
we do

The only stipulation on refletor shape is Not Triangular. Pretty clear in the manual. Any other shape is allowed.

I havent got triangular ones anyway or wavy hand ones. I have the outer ring for my fog and reversing lights as reflectors using the hella mix and
match style from SVC and very nice they look too

my bad then - I missed that one, and the bit about the HT leads needing to have the manfacturer etc. printed on it.

got the retest on Wednesday but the people who were sorting it for me can't get the engine started now that they've changed the HT leads -
giving me some guff about it being the immobiliser

Hope they get it started now they are back from stoneleigh.
Be good to have another family on the road. Hopefully mine will be by the weekend got DVLA examination Friday just had to organise Trailer and van
with towbar as I dont have one on either of the daily drivers an extra £43 grrrr

they got her started so we're on for retest tomorrow!

yes, I mean to me it seems obvious that if you change something and the car stops working then change it back and see if the problem goes away, my
first reaction wouldn't be to call in an "expert" so goes off on a tangent about it being a non existent immobiliser kicking
in....
